DELL TURTLE BEACH VORTEX PCI SOUND CARD

got it eBay was 45 but got it cheaper by offer. I need it for wavetable synthesis I like yamaha xg but they are so expensive and rare come on eBay sell then reasonable.

I have one of these as well.
Got it two years ago in a bundle. GA-586HX + Pentium 133MHz + crappy EDO RAM + shitty Trident graphics.
The seller wasn't a noob. He had a POST card and described everything that was part of the bundle. But the Vortex was just described as "PCI soundcard". He obviously didn't knew what Aureal Vortex and A3D is. When I noticed the Vortex I didn't think twice and bought the bundle for 40 bucks. :>

yes you see, my idea is to have a retro 98se or Me machine that can take this card with wavetable synthesis run in dosbox so I can tap into the wavetable with dosbox running games on a p4 but also I love synthesizers 😀 all the synthesizers I can buy have a huge gap in price due to pitch bend makes them so expensive. But often a simple midi board for pc has it all but the pc does the tones than the synthesizer. Exactly the economic solution!

I've never paid anything close to this on retro hardware and I'm sure I never will again. But just look at them! It is rare to find only one of these cards (and just look at some of the revision numbers) but to be able to get them all in same package.

I have acquired this somewhat large hoard of PC/mac/random stuff from a local collector / hobbyist who passed away. his widow was about to send it to the dump. cost for everything after a few individual items were sold separately was C$4500.

at some point I'll have to recruit some locals to help me with moving things. it's a whole 2 car garage full plus the basement and front room of the house.

I bought a nextstation color, a big box of atari ST boxed games, an apple iigs rom 3 and some other tidbits for about $850 separately as well.

4500 Canadian Rubels is a lot, for stuff that she wanted to send to the dump.

Na, an original Voodoo5 6000 will stay the number 1 item which I will never get (because some tinfoilhat wearing trumpworshiper is hoarding them).

If you think they are GUS'es, then you're right.
If you zoom in you can even read it on the PCBs. 😜

You can understand losing someone dear, feeling overwhelmed while grieving and not wanting to deal with any of this, thus the wish to send everything to the dump. I say good on the OP for not only paying a fair price to the widow but also for salvaging all these vintage parts so they can find their way into the hands of other enthusiasts later down the road

If the previous owner had a big box just for all his Maxtor branded drives, that's quite impressive 😜

Cards worthy of keeping in a safe place and only using in systems with verified PSUs ! (By verified I mean PSUs that have been tested to ensure working voltages and protection)

It would suck to see one of these cards get nixxed by a failed PSU.

Definitely never test with your valued parts with an untested/unchecked PSU.
I'm kinda surprised to sometimes see someone on youtube try to build a retro rig and try to use a PSU of which he has not even bothered to at the very least check the insides for any obvious signs of damage. It's like russian roulette 😋

Got an Audigy1 (SB0090) and the accompanying LiveDrive (SB0010) for 15 EUR total.

Fair use/fair dealing exception

The plastic on the LiveDrive is yellowed and the tiny bits which close the optical in/out ports are missing. Fortunately, I do have another Audigy1 LiveDrive which is in much better shape, and I'll be using that one alongside this card.

PC#1: Pentium MMX 166 / Soyo SY-5BT / S3 Trio64V+ / Voodoo1 / YMF719 / AWE64 Gold / SC-155
PC#2: AthlonXP 2100+ / ECS K7VTA3 / Voodoo3 / Audigy2 / Vortex2
PC#3: Athlon64 3400+ / Asus K8V-MX / 5900XT / Audigy2
PC#4: i5-3570K / MSI Z77A-G43 / GTX 970 / X-Fi

99% of the time it runs 100% of the time it fails with a loud pop some magic smoke and very angry pixies going where they shouldn't. (Percentages pulled out of my ass)

How much? Probably in the 4 digits.

Yes. They cost 1000€ so at least it is the best possible 4 digit price.

While I fail to see anything a sound card could do that would prompt me to pay more than 100, given these item's "nimbus" - it's probably a safe investment.
Just make sure your house doesn't burn down. Only for the sake of those cards, I mean. 😉

hmmm the value of these cards being what it is and the fact that its only going to climb higher would seriously make me buy some offsite secure storage and keep my valuable hardware there. (Similar to the storage place Clint from LGR has)

Wow, not a bad collection of GUS sound cards! You also got the early PAS card with dual OPL2 chips as a bonus!

The only one missing is the GUS CD3 which was a GF1-based clone card with ICS mixer made by Primax. Quite similar to the GUS Extreme which is also a clone called Synergy ViperMax.

Meanwhile, I got
- Fortron PSU
- spare beige (not all trivial in a country without dumpster diving)
- PWM Arctic Freezer with AM2 mount (I wonder if that will break off a socket 7 if I try hard.)
- 2 NOS 9.90 € sets of rubber HDD decoupler thingies - somehow, conventional HDD silenceing seems to be in less demand nowadays.
...all for a buck each. I shall cherish these, like a 300 € sound card.
Well, almost. 😜
