The problem:
When the game starts, it asks to calibrate the joystick with a combination of movement and button clicking. This completes successfully. However, when I launch into a mission, the joystick is not calibrate correctly: it has a constant rate of drift to one side. I can recalibrate the joystick in-mission (Alt+C), or I can use the trim controls on the joystick to cancel out the drift. Both will eliminate the in-flight problem. But when I exit the mission and go back to the menus and flight deck, it's uncalibrated in the opposite direction, making the mouse difficult to use because the joystick is adding its uncalibrated drift to the pointer.

The game: TIE Fighter collector's CD
The joystick: CH Products Flighstick Pro USB (no throttle, no pedals)

Hm. Okay, that mostly works. What's that setting actually mean? 😀

Momaw,

Do you know if Tie Fighter supports throttle control?

And, does DosBox emulate the throttle axis?

I've tried to set "4axis" in the dosbox.conf file, but movements are extremely erratic (even after pressing Alt-C to calibrate it)

I've tried all the possible joystick options in dosbox.conf, but the only configuration that doesn't produce erratic movements is "2axis" 🙁

PS: I have a Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro (9 buttons, 4 axis)

Cheers.

Is there a joystick mapping program for DOSBox that has a GUI, or does a comprehensive GUI like D-Fend offer one?

What do you want to do? See the mapper (ctrl-f1) and its
description in the readme.

I want the ability to change joystick keys once I'm in DOSBox, and save a profile once I'm done. I should then be able to oben the profile again upon subsequent boots of DOSBox. I should be able to adjust the key settings on-the-fly while in a game. I want to use it with D-Fend.

Also, I want a slick-looking GUI (like D-Fend) that is easy to use. The ideal scenario would be an emulation of Saitek's Profile Editor (Unfortunately, the software isn't working on my system at the moment, but that's another story). In their software, you simply click a Joystick button and choose a key command or combination. Once you're happy with your settings, you save the profile.

Try dosbox 0.70 along with DBGL or DOG and have a look at the mapper
(see the readme for explanations).
