Here is a board I can't find any information about. Pulled from a Packard Bell machine. Its an Asus P5VD2-NVM. Bios states its an NEC Variant. Has a 3.06 P4 in it I think and the ram is DDR2. Cannot find any updated bioses or anything.

P5VD2-NVM is a PCI-E board. I can't find any download sites for your P5VD2-NVM/S, but with such a similar part number I wonder whether it's similar enough to find some info at https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P5VD2VM/
If the chipset is the same, you might be able to at least get some of the drivers from there.

Looks like it may be a VIA P4M800 Pro chipset, definitelly an OEM only board

Abit AS8-3RD EYE^ These support 65nm Pentium D CPU's as well. I'm running a Pentium D 945 (65nm) in it right now.
I would LOVE to know more details about this please. I'm also having an AS8 but neither with a 940 nor a 945 I can get it to work. It starts spinning fans and then shuts down after some seconds with 9.F error code (forced shutdown from µGuru according to manual). So what do I have to do to get this running? Can you provide your CPU stepping please and maybe some additional detail for this topic, like what BIOS version are you using and so on?

Is there a s775 motherboard that supports _all_ 775 processors (or maybe not counting Xeons)? I don't care about performance or AGP vs PCI-E or DDR2 vs DD3, just cpu support.
It would make a nice test-bed for 775 cpus, which I always find in big quantities and it's a mess to start checking mb documentation to know if you can use it or not. Does such a thing exist? If it doesn't, what are the most versatile (cpu-compatibility-wise) motherboards? Is it chipset dependant?

These are boards which seems to have AGP, but is not actually AGP, but rather an implementation of it using PCI bus or PCI-e bus, they are not real AGP slots, these slots don't run as well as real AGP slots and they have also compatibility issues, they generally use non AGP chipsets. I would recomend avoiding them if you want to build an AGP rig.
Interesting would be to test, if "AGI/AGR" slot would be faster on 915 chipset motherboards, than on 865gv motherboards. (with same graphic card) As they already can have PCI-express interface. On 865gv, they are connected through PCI, but maybe, on 915gv, they are connected through PCI-e? 915GV doesnt have pcix16 slot, but maybe they still have pci-e interface available?
If someone have motherboard collection, with both 865gv and 915gv chipsets, with these type of "not real AGP slots", could be interesting to compare results, if 915 brings advancement here in terms of maximum performance.

It is still connected through PCI interface, even on 915 chipset. Bridge from PCI to PCI-express would make board too expensive, according the information in article.
The power for the AGR slot is made through 2 PCI slot connections. But bandwidth limitation stay the same. Also , there is no direct access to memory. Sometimes, it will cripple performance more, sometime less (according situation).
Would be interesting, if someone would make AGR slot connected through PCI-express interface anyway, on 915 chipset, if it would be about same fast as real AGP connection.

Every microcode has been updated, there is one microcode fewer because intel merged the platforms for CPUID 10676.
CR865PE172MC.7zThere are no microcodes for 771 but apparently they can be added without issues, the total number of microcodes goes up to 33, if anyone is willing to test it I can upload that file too.
Can you upload the firmware file for 771?
