Those radeons aught to do well. I ran a radeon 9800 pro on my cyrix 350 build. It could play halo :p

Such cards don’t always work on ss7 mobos though. With my freeway mobos I got lucky

Cyrix PR350?
Now that is a rare beast.
Supposedly only one motherboard supported it the PCCHIPS m590 w/ the 90mhz FSB

That is awesome!

I was able to get the ATi cards to work on this board with the K6-2+ but I had to force AGP with Powerstrip, but if I have issues with the Geforce I will probably try them. I am curious to see how it will perform with a stronger graphics card. I forgot that I also have a 9250se (128bit memory) that I might throw in there to stay. The 8500 will probably stay in the Thunderbird 1400 system as it matches the time frame of that build nicely.

I will update with new numbers when I do.

Which 2+? Did you mod it?

If you get a chance I would be curious to see benchmarks of those cards on the cyrix at 350 mhz.

It is a K6-2+ 533, it is stable at 550 & 600mhz, at 2.1v. However at 600mhz it pumps out a lot of heat. Strange as it runs super cool at 550mhz and 2.0v.
The Cyrix even at 2.4v runs cool to the touch even under load, same heatsink and fan. That is strange to me.

I did not mod it as I have a K6-3+ that is stable at 616 (112mhz FSB) in another system. I would likely destroy the thing 🤣.
I have a third K6-2+ 550 in a laptop as well, but it has a crappy Trident graphics chip and even worse a dual scan display. I would dearly love to find a TFT panel that would work in that laptop though.

I will try to bench all of the cards and post up some numbers. Takes time but it is fun.

Ah, best to mod the 570s anyway. The others are collector’s items and less likely to mod

That is good to know. I didn't know that.

Well I didn't have time to do a ton of benchmarks, and I couldn't seem to get the Geforce 2 to install properly. I probably need to do a clean install of Windows at this point.
But regardless, what I did do was some tests with a Radeon 7500DDR and a double sided stick of PC100 128MB ram. I didn't test with the 7200 SDR or the 9250, I doubt they would be much different, same driver.
FYI the tests with 256MB of ram were within margin of error.
I do have some 64MB sticks just not sure where they are. I will have to dig and see.

These are their stories...

Based on that and the chipset, I’m suspecting 64 probably won’t do any better.

I noticed a difference between 640 and 384mb on mvp3 but hadn’t tried 256 or 128 much. I’m thinking the threshold lies around 384mb🤔 may also depend on cpu and amount of cache installed.

That score is better! 7500s are good cards for these systems. A 9250 probably is at best almost a equal to a 7500 i have both in pci and my 9200pro is almost as fast.

I’d try to see if you can maybe get a 9700 or 9800 working in it. I was pretty happy with it in mine.

People around here have set records with geforce 2 and 3 cards with old 7.?? Drivers though but mine have always bugged out when I tried to use them on my system. (Probably because I use dvi)

Yes, I doubt they will do much higher if any. Regardless the 9250 is a cooler running card, and worth less as the 7500 DDR is an original Radeon by ATi with the retail clocks.
So I will probably put it back as a collector piece, and run the 9250 in there for now. But I will probably also re-image the disk with a clean Windows 98SE installation and try to get the nVidia drivers working. I would like to see if I can get closer to some of the other records set on here.

I might even get crazy wild and try for a slightly higher clock speed, It is probably not possible with this chip but it can't hurt to try as long as I don't go any higher with the voltage.

Yeah. No more than 2.4v I’d say. You can of course do more but it probably wouldn’t even help and you risk the chip.

Seems like most good binned 2.0/2.2v chips are around 350 on a overclock.

My 400gp can do 350

My 300gps are a little less. Maybe 330 so you did good 😀

There may be a rare unicorn out there that might be able to do 400 what does hardwarebot say?

Yeah I figured that I hit a bit of the silicon lottery with this chip. I usually do not.
So, I decided to do a clean install of 98se and try to get the Geforce 2 GTS working.
I also installed DX7.0a and not DX8.1 this time around.
All the hardware is the same, just VIA 4n1 drivers, NUSB33 and Geforce 7.76 video drivers.
Still has both the Aureal Vortex (Sonic MPACT90 form Diamond) and the Vibra SB16 ISA card installed.

I did a run of both 3DMark99 and 3dMark2000 with stock video card clocks, then I did a another run of 3dMark 2000 but I "simulated" a Geforce 2Ti (250core, 400 effective memory).
I was really hoping to hit 2000 points but no go. At least not yet. Card is functioning in AGP2X stable.

You are matching my tyan s1564d, 66fsb, 512mb, simm k6-3+ 400 mhz, radeon 7500, win ME now 😀

No chance you’ve found a way to get to 350 with a higher fsb have you? Drop the multi and raise the fsb? I assume you are 100x3.5 right now.

What driver are you using?

7.xx? Is what you want

Read the k6-3+ aiming for the stars thread they talk about it a lot there.

I will have to read the thread for sure. That seems like a healthy result.
Yes I am at 100x3.5
I have not tried to to raise the FSB, that was actually what I planned to do next.
I didn't have a ton of luck with the K6-2+ at 112mhz fsb, but perhaps the Cyrix will do a bit better.

Now my Soyo board fared better it is rock stable at 112mhz with the handful of chips I've tried in it.

I am using 7.76 for the GTS card. Seems to be the best optimized for 3dnow and slower FPU cpus.
I did try a Geforce 4 MX440 with I think 45.23, It is a garbage 64bit memory bus card though. It scored around 1200pts.
Not surprising but it was just for curiosity sake.

I did also try the 9250se and it scored pretty close to the 7500 as you had guessed. 1686 or so. I didn't screen cap it.
That is about all of the interesting cards I have to try. I have a Geforce 256 but it seems to have died, it hasn't worked right for a long time. Bad memory I think.

My Radeon 8500 isn't REALLY and 8500, it is a FireGL 8800 card that I use the 8500 drivers with. It is a bit faster than a vanilla 8500, at least in D3D.
Nowhere near as fast as a 9700/9800. My 9800 died years ago unfortunately.

Still yeat maybe some fsb/multiplier magic can coax a bit higher scores, it's all in good fun.

9800 pros aren’t too bad on ebay but lots of them have bad memory. And they don’t work with all ss7 mobos.

Dono what the current state of 9700s is but I suspect it might be a good one to try also.

In any case with what you have it seem the gf2 is probably going to be your top scorer, but a high mb high end radeon 9000 series has some nice resolution perks :p and full dvi support.

That vid of halo was at 1024x1280 if I recall.

Really curious if 336mhz 112fsb is faster than 100fsb 350mhz. It might be… but on that chip it’s a tough call.

You got all your timings for ram to lowest?

I look every so often but haven't found one yet.
Ram timings are lowest possible in BIOS.
112x3.5, 4.0, and 3.0 were not stable.
95, 83x4.0, 3.5 etc were also not stable, even with ISA card removed.
Kinda sucks, but was still a good time getting where i did get!

Might have to try my hand at other Socket 7 Aiming for the stars threads now.
Thanks for all of your help.
