What is the U2 ? I only see optrons in such package, and you don't need such a thing for a WB module since the MIDI signal on it is a TTL signal you're supposed to use directly.

It is an optocoupler. I once learned 30 years ago that signaling devices can be
galvanically isolated as possible in order not to cause any damage in the event of an error.
It's a prototype Board. The final Version will be a different Layout.

That's a nice idea, curious to hear how it sounds!

looking forward to the beeps and bops 😁
Cool concept. Curious to hear a demo.
In current case, a small value (100ohm is sufficient) current limit resistor will be enough in case you accidentally configure UART input as an output pin or such and have a signal fight happen due to it. The UART signals at WB header are 5Vpp TTL for both RX and TX lines, not a standard MIDI current loop (so you need to bear that in mind with the optocoupler in order not to burn out the diode).
Another important thing is the analog and digital grounds aspect, you cannot connect them together at the WB card without negatively (sometimes severely) affecting all of the sound in host card (digital return currents can create lovely thinkng noises into the sound from the ground loop that then gets generated). You may need a differential amplifer to cross the digital GND referenced MCU output into the analog ground side to have this problem properly taken care of. (I can draw up a working design if you'd like that ~)
I'm certainly curious to hear the results though, it should sound pretty fun ~

Yep, and cheaper. You're right - i'll change it.
thanks a lot

Hello guys and thank you for your interest also via PM.
I've been asked several times why it does not go on here, so I explain it briefly here.
I'm from Germany, but I'm currently on holiday with my family on the Danish coast.
Everything was already packed, the retro PC for testing, soldering station, all parts about the beepblaster project,
yes I had even informed JLC-PCB, who kindly offered to beckon to me when the container ship passes by and then
drop off a dinghy with my boards, but I'll make it short - my wife did not play along! 😉
I hope for your understanding - next month we will continue.
best regads

Hi Guys 😀
The Beepblaster Projects is close finished.
Here you can hear the BTS (Beeptable Sound) Mode.
Have fun 😀

Paddy
That is a short demo of the 2nd Mode of the Beepblaster.
BB Setting is more puristic 😀

I like it. I'll take one.

oh this is a huge improvement !
kudos Ulfenknulfen!!!
it is funny how we reached a point that now we want to hear "lo-fi" sounds instead of highest possible quality 🤣
Ulfenknulfen, I love it !!

My first thought upon listening to the audio is that it would make a fantastic lpt soundcard. I think it would pair well with PC speaker sound effects in games!
Paddy, it sounds great ! Congratulations.

Great project! Glad to put together a small group buy for my fellow Free Geek Twin Cities enthusiasts here in the US if you end up selling completed boards or kits.
