Q3A needs 64MB of memory. Does the HDD get accessed a lot while running DEMO? I would guess you won't get any more FPS with 768MB - maybe 1 or 2 at best.

I've just committed to purchase this Gravis Ultrasound plug&play version 3 + disc's + CD + 2MB memory for the machine: (It will be slotted in below the AWE64 Gold!)

This is quite an amazing built. I see there is no upper cost limit 😉

PS:
Always nice to see someone making an effort to finalize his built 😁

Very nice!! Looks like that GUS is in great shape!

If you have the time, could you try to image the driver floppies for archival purposes? A simple tool like DSKIMAGE will do the job.

I will do, once I have them in hand.

Thanks! 😀

I’m very happy that the system’s giving me the performance that I expected! (It’s at least been money well spent!)

After some thought I think that I might actually fit the GUS into my fourth-coming Dual Pentium Pro build, as this current build is running XP Professional and the Dual Pentium Pro is set to run NT4!

As I unfortunately cannot find an appropriate XP driver for this card!

This Dual setup also needs some interesting features! I plan to give it a dual Voodoo2 SLI setup with the Dynamic Pictures Oxygen 202 as a 2D card, a SCSI RAID card and maybe this GUS!

My compliments to your not so obvious choice of hardware, nice photo's.

How about the case or housing for all this exotic stuff?

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Orion 700 | TB 1000 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

You may think that I'm crazy, but I may end up considering one of these cases for this Dual Pentium Pro build, as it will show off the hardware nicely. (Especially if off-white in-case lighting is used! NO RAINBOW COLOURS!!!!)

It has the right number of card slots to accommodate this mother board. (A mixture of the old with the super modern!!!)

I would have to make up a custom mother board holder to interface this AT board with the ATX mounting points in this case. (A piece of Plexiglas of the appropriate thickness could be used to achieve this.)

How I came to this was that I saw someone else build up an old system like this one into a modern case and it actually looked really cool!

Cable management is a real problem with these older systems, so a case such as this one would go a long way to hide all of the ribbon cables and present this motherboard really nicely!

It's a special board, so I think it deserves a special case! (It should present very well through the tempered class window! 😀 )

The only problem is that it's a bit pricy! (So I'll only start to look at this once my current socket 8 build is complete)

That is not a case, that is a work of art 🤩

Please use the "quote" option if asking questions to what I write - it will really up the chances of me noticing 😀

Show stealer sure, but might as well make it look like a Bang & Olufsen stereo because it cost about as much 🤣

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Done some testing with my PPRO with 1MB chip running at 233MHz, Windows 95 OSR2, 128MB

Q3A demo, default settings, 800x600:

Voodoo2 12MB ... 28.9 - no sound
Voodoo2 12MB ... 27.3 - low quality sound
Voodoo2 12MB SLI ... 31.5 - no sound
Voodoo2 12MB SLI ... 28.8 - low quality sound
Voodoo 5 5500 PCI... 27.9 - no sound

Curious, could you do a test audigy 2zs vs isa sound card on this setup? Audigy 2zs is supposed to have a lot of hardware acceleration but idk if basic isa sound might still have the edge? (Performance wise)
