Hi all, I'm having a problem with DOSBox which is bugging the hell out of me. Whenever I run it in full screen mode (which is always, I have no use for windowed mode when gaming!), the top quarter inch or so of the display is pushed off the top of the screen. It seems to be stretched, not shifted, as the bottom of the display appears to be where it should be.

Is there some kind of setting, configuration or tweak I can use to make DOSBox fit the screen properly in full screen mode? I'm dying to get back into my DOS games but I can't play like this.

Any info anybody can give me would be hugely appreciated, thanks in advance!

Vaelor,

By your description, I can only see two situations:

#1 - If you're using fullresolution=original, then your monitor if probably not correctly calibrated to display that resolution, so you should do what gulikoza said, and use your monitor controls to adjust the upper part of the display.

#2 - Or, should you be using a fixed resolution (like 800x600), maybe you can try setting aspect=true and/or try different output settings.

Without more details, all I can do is guess...

Try it out and give us some feedback, if you can.

Thanks njaydg, you're a lifesaver.

I set scaler=normal2x, aspect=true and fullresolution=640x480. Now all my old DOS games fullscreen properly without pushing off the top of the screen.

This is great - I certainly wasn't interested in fooling around with my monitor settings every single time I decided to play a game, and then back again when I was done! Screw that! =P

Thanks again for the prompt assistance!

Glad I could help! 😀

You could try setting that fullresolution=desktop... That way your monitor won't have to switch resolutions everytime you run DOSBox! And the image will probably be "prettier". 😎

Monitors can usually remember up to 15 or so settings, so there's no need to set it everytime you play the game, just once...

You're right, gulikoza!

And I'm glad it is so... Although it's a per resolution/refresh rate setting, it's still very useful, as it is a "set once and forget" kind of setting. 😎
