I have been trying find information about what is the fastest possible voodoo 5 5500 build. Since we are limited to the AGP speed of the card, we need to find trully supported motherboards with universal AGP.

Some forums mention the VIA KT333 chipset for a fast voodoo 5 5500 experience. Not sure why KT333 is not something easy to find here, there are however more motherboards with via KT266 found everywhere.

This is as far as you can go with VIA because i think back then they used universal AGP and later on they started using AGP 8x slots.

But my question is more on the Pentium 4 side, there is not much info on a voodoo5 used with a pentium4.

And Pentium4 was a big part of the market. For example they even used SiS chipsets with pentium 4 that had universal AGP slots, like the Asus p4S533-E
which supports up to pentium4 2.8ghz.

or KT333 via is still faster?

There are socket 7 75 boards that support core2duo with AGP. So probably a wolfdale at 4.2ghz . I am not sure how much the voodoo 5500 benefited from the AGP bus. With the PCI version and a PCIE to PCI adapter you could potentially install it on any modern computer.

Purely for benchmarks though. A pentium 4 would remove any practical bottlenecks from the card.

but socket 775 motherboards don´t have universal agp
you can't put a voodo5 5500 AGP on those.

Intel: P4 3.06 / 645DX
AMD: Athlon XP 3000+ / KT333CE

Both more or less equal in stock, but KT333 were cream of the crop for their respective platform, so they can be overclocked good. 645DX was strictly for budget builds.

thanks!, and i have to be careful with KT333, KT333CE and KT333CF
because the "CF" one is the one we don´t want as it does not support 2x agp cards.

was kt333CE common? or lasted a short time? its quite difficult to see one. Quite difficult to see Any KT333 really.

All boards with official 166 MHz FSB support should have KT333CE. KT333CE / VT8235 is uncommon, has some nice features like LAN and USB 2.0, but not critical for gaming.
