Hey,

I'm having issues with PFD (which is not on the compatibility list). The game starts, but it runs incredibly slow. The suggested solution in the FAQ is as follows:

If you ran your game using your own .pif file, edit
the .pif file's properties, go to "Advanced" and make
sure "Compatible timer emulation" is TURNED OFF. If
you ran the game from the default DOS box, you can
either modify _DEFAULT.PIF in %SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32,
or create a custom .pif for the game with "Compatible
timer emulation" disabled (in _DEFAULT.PIF it is, by
default, disabled).

Well, I ran the game from a VDMSound shortcut created by the launchpad. Compatible timer emulation for the .exe that the shortcut points to is disabled. I've also checked "Cap DOS timer frequency" in the performance options of the shortcut, but to no avail.

The suggested solution also mentioned use of a third party program named pitset (v0.2) to force a higher frequency, but the program seems to do nothing? Doesn't come with a readme, either.

Anyone have any luck with getting this game to work? I can be contacted through e-mail and I'll check back on this board.

"Pinball Dreams" and "Pinball Fantasies" for the PC are two titles that "Hate NT". The general consensus is that while you may be able to get these to run, it will be very difficult, and the performance will be poor.

For these titles, you're better off emulating the Amiga originals using WinUAE. That, of course, can be complex as well. But once the initial setup is completed it's pretty easy and the results are very good.

Both of the Amiga versions are freely (and legally) available from "Back 2 the Roots":

You can always play the SNES versions as well. The same as the PC and Amiga versions and hey, with ZSNES, free 2xSaI video interleaving 😁

Yes, it’s my fault.

Well, that's a shame. I was hoping there was some easy solution that I had neglected to try. Ah well, luckily I managed to get the game to work on my old laptop, albeit with PC speaker sound.

Thanks for the info,

Well since the legality can be a problem, it might be hard to find.

I've tried it within DosBox and got decent results using the PC speaker option (sounds almost as good as the original SoundBlaster version [IOW, better than native speaker]).
