i just tested the games again https://youtu.be/Dih-_O4_jqE?si=HML1wb5TkGueiCsn

does your bios have a clock option for the ISA bus like CLK/4 or CLK/8. If you do try selecting the largest divisor option to slow the isa bus down.

i have that option i think its a ami bios if i slow it down wil that effect the soundcard and the ide controller card ?

yes technically it will run all the cards on the ISA at the speed selected, but the idea is to try and make it standard speed or slower to see if it starts working. I see the other post for the AT Bus clock option did you originally have the 7 mhz option selected?

Is there a way to configure this? Some games require five or six buttons (Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter).

do any of those games somehow support more than 4 buttons from a gameport?

Yes, they used both inputs to achieve I believe (which is similar to how the PicoGUS joystick support works currently, it just has a different mapping) - so you’re not able to play two players with two 6 button controllers. You could put one person on keyboard and another on a six button controller, though.

the 7 mhz is the most compatible selection. Pretty sure your FSB is 33 mhz, so /4 would be 8.25 and a /3 is 11. In other words the /3 /4 let you overclock the ISA bus, which was the reason i asked about it in the other post.
slow refresh is a setting for the ram and when enabled might give a small performance increase, disable for now is fine. Dont think its related.
Can you try the soundblaster/adlib firmware with duke3d?
Other things i would try is switching resources to different irq/dma. Remember to update the ULTRASND variable.
I doubt anything PCI related is causing your problem. I had something similar with doom and the 2.0 cards but the bug was fixed.

Look at gameport pinout, its 4 buttons total, two per joystick.

I think they use directional inputs as “buttons”

read over this page its describes how to setup the autoexec which contains the ULTRASND variable.

Did you test an earlier version of Duke3D, like v1.3D? There are a lot of garbage versions of Duke3D flying around on the inter-webs... I usually try to get a game from 2-3 different sources just to be sure that one of them works.

In Sounblaster mode I would expect you need to set the BLASTER variable instead of the ULTRASND variable.
Does the Wiki not elaborate on that?

Aren't you supposed to have 2 DMA jumpers? So, 1 jumper on IRQ 5, and a jumper on each DMA 1.

I really think you should go back to Polpo's configuration docs: https://github.com/polpo/picogus/wiki/Configu … ng-your-PicoGUS

I was about to say that and you certainly are. There's always 2 jumpers used for the DMA and therefore the DMA numbers above are double.

a DMA channel on the ISA bus uses 2 signals, a request and an acknowledge.
Both jumpers need to be set on the same channel for a card to properly use a DMA channel..
