Some chickens have hatched, I may finally count them, "bought" is kinda moot, I figuratively bought him a lunch. These were bound for recycling, but instead of being freed from their earthly toil and entering the Elysian Fields, Ima punish them a bit longer. ATX case with 865 board, the sudden death prone P4P800, Creative? Radeon 9600 AGP, MSI TV card. PSU not yet eyeballed, nor CPU. 2nd unit ATX case, P7P55-M board, I3-530 (Could it be worse? yes there was an 1156 celeron and three PDCs) 4GB DDR3. 550W Antec truegreen or something looks semi modular. 3 opticals, one media bay between them. 2nd one missing the side panel.. haven't checked yet if right side panel fits on left, then I can make one for the non removed (usually) side. Or leave it off that side because tray mostly covers everything, tape a garbage bag over it like it's a broken car window something classy like that 🤣
TPU says just bang the bus clock to 200 and profit.. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core … 540-530/12.html ... so that might do for XP .... but if I wanna stretch up and turn it modern, guess I'd need an X3460 or X3470
Shall I even bother planning for the P4P800?? I've still got that prescott 2.8 that wants to stretch it's legs some.
Edit: brief closer look P4P800 has the caps bloated alongside CPU, couldn't get HSF off, coolermaster I've never seen before and might have to read a manual to get the dumb clips off, so no CPU peek. Coolmax "600W" PSU. The other is actually in an Antec case, drivebay door, filter lower. Shame it's missing a panel. Still can't tell if the Radeon is the Creative one for sure or not, not that I care all that much... lack of BGA ram so much a blessing I guess.
EditII: Nothing felt right to put my 560Ti in before, maybe the P7P55-M does. Though I am not sure unless the i3 goes real high on overclock whether it will have enough CPU behind it.
EditIII: w00t, i7-860 came in a junk lot last night, cross your fingers for me.
Too right foster, Xeon is the way.
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
