Some chickens have hatched, I may finally count them, "bought" is kinda moot, I figuratively bought him a lunch. These were bound for recycling, but instead of being freed from their earthly toil and entering the Elysian Fields, Ima punish them a bit longer. ATX case with 865 board, the sudden death prone P4P800, Creative? Radeon 9600 AGP, MSI TV card. PSU not yet eyeballed, nor CPU. 2nd unit ATX case, P7P55-M board, I3-530 (Could it be worse? yes there was an 1156 celeron and three PDCs) 4GB DDR3. 550W Antec truegreen or something looks semi modular. 3 opticals, one media bay between them. 2nd one missing the side panel.. haven't checked yet if right side panel fits on left, then I can make one for the non removed (usually) side. Or leave it off that side because tray mostly covers everything, tape a garbage bag over it like it's a broken car window something classy like that 🤣

TPU says just bang the bus clock to 200 and profit.. https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core … 540-530/12.html ... so that might do for XP .... but if I wanna stretch up and turn it modern, guess I'd need an X3460 or X3470

Shall I even bother planning for the P4P800?? I've still got that prescott 2.8 that wants to stretch it's legs some.

Edit: brief closer look P4P800 has the caps bloated alongside CPU, couldn't get HSF off, coolermaster I've never seen before and might have to read a manual to get the dumb clips off, so no CPU peek. Coolmax "600W" PSU. The other is actually in an Antec case, drivebay door, filter lower. Shame it's missing a panel. Still can't tell if the Radeon is the Creative one for sure or not, not that I care all that much... lack of BGA ram so much a blessing I guess.

EditII: Nothing felt right to put my 560Ti in before, maybe the P7P55-M does. Though I am not sure unless the i3 goes real high on overclock whether it will have enough CPU behind it.

EditIII: w00t, i7-860 came in a junk lot last night, cross your fingers for me.

Too right foster, Xeon is the way.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

IIRC I picked up my P4P800 for free in 2020 or so, and a few months ago I noticed that a couple of the 6.3 volt 1500 microfarad caps were bulging and had to replace them all. Other than that it's been a very solid performer.

After watching many YouTube videos about older computer hardware, YouTube began recommending videos about trains - are they trying to tell me something?

MY MACHINE IS BIGGER THAN YOURS!!! I got myself a IBM PC Server 704 (Quad Pentium Pro)

fbhMeBXb.jpg

Gallery:
https://imgur.com/gallery/behold-ibm-pc-serve … hinator-s6jAvUv

Found this on Facebook marketplace. $150 and a 2-hour round trip. LITERALLY the only reason I have FB is marketplace and the IBM PS/2 owners group. (It's a private IBM circle-jerk) Speaking of jerks, I had to clean myself up after I pulled out the memory board. 16x ECC 128mb 72-pin SIMMS for a total of 2048mb. (in the gallery)

I'll make a separate thread about this absolute unit. I'm going to service the power supplies before I just ram the angry pixies into them. The PSUs show signs of heavy use (dusty) so its likely the RIFAs are going to pop like firecrackers if I just plug her in.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.

Nice card. Do you have some production date ? (Or bios date ?)
Must be a late version. 64MB was a lot in early 2000. Same clock as normal ones ?

I picked this up on Saturday - a brand new Iiyama Vision Master Pro 452! I first bought one in 2001, with I believe the first paycheck I ever received. It was epic then and it's just as epic now, such a lovely bit of kit, and so pleased to have found the perfect one after searching for about 2 years 😀

Niiiice!

I got mine 2 years ago, but in the complete opposite condition of yours: no box, non-working, and stored in a leaky garage (as evidenced by the rust and water spots on the innards.) Was $5 though. 🤣

Anywho... if yours is anything like mine on the inside, it should have a Hitachi shadow mask picture tube... which IMO are some of the best tubes to have in a CRT. You will also want to crack yours open and check the electrolytic caps. IIyama didn't use the best ones in there. Mine were a mix of G-Luxon and Elite, IIRC, among some other brands. One of the bigger G-Luxon caps was bulging. Not sure if that caused a ceramic cap to short out and the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor) to fail or if the shorted ceramic cap caused the HOT to fail and the G-Luxon was just age-related failure from the monitor sitting in storage for 10+ years... but either way, once started pulling caps after replacing the failed G-luxon cap and the HOT, I found many of the small caps on the neck board and mainboard were starting to go real bad. So just a heads-up warning that yours might need some servicing (recapping) sometime in the future too. Other than that, the picture on the screen appeared very nice and sharp... well, as good as it could get with the not-so-proper HOT I used to test the monitor.

Interesting information, thank you! I've had that thought in the back of my mind - even if it's been unused the components may have started to degrade inside - so I've considered having it checked out, maybe I'll need to prioritise that just in case.

The tube is supposed to be a Diamondtron, which I thought was a Mitsubishi thing? Unless that's more of a generic term and it was made by other manufacturers as well?

Pretty sure it worked then like it does now, fabs will buy a bunch of panels/tubes from a main fabricator under a licensing deal, so youll see Trinitron tubes in non sony CRTs same with Diamondtron.

Yeah. And/or they license the design and build their own.
Sony started out building licensed copies before they nailed trinitron.
Asianometry has a recent vid on Sony that's interesting.

I built:
Convert old ASUS ASC boardviews to KICAD PCB!
Re: A comprehensive guide to install and play MechWarrior 2 on new versions on Windows.
Dos+Windows 3.11+tcp+vbe_svga auto-install iso template
Script to backup Win9x\ME drivers from a working install

Ha ha, a good Korn reference. But anyway, I set one of these up at a place I worked at long ago. We tried running Solaris on it and had so many problems with lockups and getting drives for it. It probably wasn't the computer's fault though. I haven't seen one since so it was great seeing the photos.

Im just sitting here drooling at it, I have a huge soft spot for PPro but not the bankroll to support an addiction like Luckybob has.

God Id love to mess around with that machine .. even just getting to hear the old girl roar into life would be great, hopefully bob does a video on firing it up so we can all hear how noisy it is.

Not sure on the production date, ill have to look at the back of the card, when I get home. I do believe its early 2000.
It does have standard clocks, 120Mhz Gpu, 150Mhz Ram. Posted a 3D Mark 2001 SE 3,501 Score.

I had not seen a 64Mb DDR model before mine so its nice to see another in working order !

The 3d glasses are kinda cool too but more of a novelty rather than useful.

Bought this little number today, fully tested and working a lovely QDI Advance 10T that seems to have been recapped with shiny cans rather than the normal caps.

I dont have a Tualatin board with ISA so I think this is the last Tualatin board I need for my collection unless I can find a Tualatin board with RDRAM.

I think I will actually build a system around this board, since it has ISA that makes it perfect for a dual boot late DOS 6.22 and XP machine and by dual boot I simply mean having DOS run off a compact flash and XP of a SSD and run a boot loader so the two never have to meet. Late DOS games were interesting as many of them came with Windows ports but the DOS version usually ran better or had access to 3DFX that the Windows versions didn't yet have, IIRC Simcity 2000 ran better under DOS and had more speed settings than the Win95 version did.

Good looking board. I do see some potential trouble - if you haven't already noticed, I see some bulging capacitors in the upper right. Every Gigabyte board I've happened across from the early 2000s has needed a partial or full recap job.

I ordered a batch of 72 pin RAM, in total there are eight modules, four of 8 MB each and four of 16 MB each, theoretically they should all be working, plus the seller gave me another 4 SDRAM modules, there are two pairs, one PC100 of 128 MB each, and the other two are of 512 MB each, in short, a nice lot in the end.

I still can't believe this... I got my hands on a very clean, error free, Compaq Prolinea 4/50 for $100 Canadian dollars.

In my roster, this PC is going to cover the 1988-1992 era... I'll probably try to install MS-DOS 5.1 with DirectAccess 5.1 menu system. I'll be adding my Audician32 Plus with a WavetablePi and increase RAM to 16Mb. I might try to add a 5.25 floppy drive if prices could stop skyrocketing.
