I'm trying to locate a CGI demo that used to be widely played on display monitors in various computer shops in the early 90's.. IIRC around the time period Sound Blaster and Sound Blaster Pro were on the shelves.

The CGI demo was showing an animating stupid bird model with long thin legs and a long thin bendy neck, which it bends up and down in a loop. The bird was simplistic and was made of several spheres of varying colors, and IIRC the bird had spikey hair on its head. The demo was playing against a black background, and the bird was Phong-shaded.

My impression was back in the day that it was a 3D Studio for DOS demo, but of course I could've been mistaken.

Looking for help identifying and finding that scene if it ever rings a bell in someone's mind..

Cheers!

Yippeee! 😁 That's the one, thanks leileilol. My Google-Fu fails me to find the file though. Is it available somewhere to download so I can play it on a DOS machine?

I think I found it under as an entry in a collection of the Animation Festival (volume 1, 1993). The only download location is on the sad archive.org. I hope the site recovers soon.

It is included as an example scene in 3d studio r3 and r4.
You can render it from there any way you want.

Nice! Thanks for the info pshipkov. That's even cooler than downloading the FLIC itself 🙂

Edit: The bird shares some similarity with the drinking bird, I think.
