There are a number of games, where I wish a further entry would have been released... (or the second or third entry were somehow lacking...)

- Prince of Persia 3 (the 2D Platformer)
- Eye of the Beholder 3 ( the Westwood version)
- Indiana Jones 3 (the 3rd Point and click Adventure)
- Simon the Sorcerer 3 (the 2D version)
- Monkey Island 3 (the Reboot with the Timbleweed engine)
- Freespace 3
- Dungeon Master 3
- Syndicate 3
- Dune III
- Jazz Jackrabbit 3
- Heretic 3
- Lands of Lore 3

...

A third Deus Ex game with Adam Jensen.

It was apparently in development, but it got canceled earlier this year. This sucks even more because the ending of Mankind Divided felt incomplete, and the story was supposed to conclude in the third installment.

I always felt like Doom was missing a proper third entry. In part because Doom just doesn't feel like Doom without Carmack and Romero. But then again, as Doom's technical achievements get further and further in the rearview mirror, Romero's contributions to the game and level design really stand out more than anything. And while yes, an actual Doom 3 really was made, and was every bit the technical achievement of it's time as prior entries were, it definitely lacked that Romero shine that, for me, makes Doom 1 and 2 eminently replayable to this day. And if you come at it from the engine perspective with Doom 1/2 being lumped together, then Doom 3, and then Doom 2016, Doom 2016 feels like a fan game. A really damned good fan game, but a fan game all the same. Is there even a single person involved in Doom 2016 from the OG id software crew?

I feel like what I really need is another 3 episode, 2.5D Doom game made by Romero, American McGee, and god damnit, even Sandy Peterson. Maybe what I really need to do is play Sigil and Sigil 2.

Win98 - Pentium III 1000, GF2 GTS, SBLive CT4760

The two Sigil episodes + No Rest For The Living would probably make for a pretty good classic Doom game.

It's a shame that the latter gets so little exposure in the community. Probably because it was an Xbox exclusive for a while. Some top notch level design in that expansion.

Knights of the Old Republic 3. The refusal to make a proper 3rd entry to this series is perplexing to me. There was a lot of demand for it, the developers wanted to do it but as usual the executives had to jump on the bandwagon and we got an MMO instead.

Have you tried the N64 version? To me this always felt closest to a genuine 3rd episode.

Thinking about this some more, my list of unmade games would include:

Half-Life 3 (as mentioned)
NOLF 3
Portal 3
System Shock 3
Unreal 3 (single player campaign)

For games that had a lackluster 3rd, instalment, I'd nominate F.E.A.R. 3. Though admittedly the first F.E.A.R. game was (mostly) a one-trick pony regarding the horror element. So I'm not sure how you follow that up with one good sequel let alone two.

486 DX-33 with 5 sound cards

Yeah, thought of this as well, but have you tried Timbleweed park?

I think it is, in many ways, the spiritual 3rd installment in the series. It has the same humorahu, strange characters, really clever puzzles and deep plot and overall feel like the first two.

Yeah, Timbleweed Park is in some way a clear spiritual sucessor, but I would really love a new adventure with the characters of Day of the Tentacle (love Bernard, Laverne and Hoagie) and it would be a dream if Dave Grossman, Tim Schafer and Ron Gilbert could get together for one last game. There was some talk after Return to Monkey Island.

Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes 3, after The Case of the Serrated Scalpel and The Case of the Rose Tattoo.

There have been lots of mediocre Sherlock Holmes games, but a third Mythos Sherlock Holmes Lost Files Saga, maybe in the style of the glorious first game before the ending of the Point 'n'Click classic golden era would have been well deserved.

Another I thought of, though maybe it's a stretch, is the planned sequel to Zork: Nemesis and Zork: Grand Inquisitor. It would be sort of the 3rd Z-Engine or whatever they called it game. I remember reading about it in CGW during coverage of Grand Inquisitor. A shame it never happened because the graphical zorks never really felt zorky until GI came out. A shame it bombed.

Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes 3

Yeah! I have not played the 2nd one a lot (I was put off by the static photographic art that looked like some monthy python animation), but the first one was awesome. So is the second one worth a try in terms of gameplay, puzzles and atmosphere ?

The second is weighed down by the slowness of the animations and in general is much less inspired, but the plot is interesting, some puzzles are good, there are many clues through the dialogues and if you are a fan of the old detective it is definitely worth it. If only it weren't so slow to move around the stages...
