I'm getting nasty static/popping coming out of my Sc55 while playing GM music in Dark Forces.

This is the only game I've discovered so far where this happens. Every other game is clear.

I'm playing on a pentium machine with an AWE32. Dos/win98.

Possibly related to the "MPU-401 Stuttering with high sampling rates" bug described here: Sound Blaster 16 Bugs and Deficiencies Summary

Try disabling digital audio in the game's setup and see if the issue still occurs. If not, that would confirm that the problem is caused by the aforementioned bug.
