I love the compactness and simplicity of NT 4.0. Perhaps a not so attractive OS if you're a hc gamer. But it comes stock with PINBALL. Can't remember if XP included it or not. Vista definitely didn't. As I recall anyway.

I got an original installation CD of Windows NT 4.0,thus also when I select an appropriate computer for it,I will install it,simply because I collect Legacy OSs.
The games & some small apps included in Windows can be copied(yes,just copied) to newer versions of Windows & will run.
Not vice versa,Windows will refuse to execute a file with a higher version number than its own,if the program is using same version numbering as Windows itself,but if the version number of the program is lower,than that of Windows,it will work.
I tested that with these(working on all Windows versions equal & higher,than the program version number):
•Minesweeper.
•Character Map.
•MS Paint(brush).
•MS Write.
•MS Wordpad.
•Notepad.
These worx in any directory of its own & newer Windows & does not conflict with the native version.
I use to associate the extensions PCX,RLE & WRI abandoned in later versions(or redirected in case of WRI) to the Paintbrush & Write from Windows 3.x ,which I copy to newer versions or in case of multiboot I just point to the files on Windows 3.x partition.
Of course 16bit versions do not work on 64bit Windows,but U can for example use XP or Vista versions on Windows 7,of course U can use 9.x or 4.0 versions on all newer Windows.
I guess,U may by successful with copying Pinball to newer Windows too.

Yes Pinball was a particularly nifty little addon. And yes works wif later versions of Winderz. Every OS should come with 2 or 3 crazy games. Not Solitaire, God how many brain cells were put to death. W/o so much as a trial. Chess should be a standard. I became hooked to online chess and had to quit cold turkey.

Yes,chess should be a standard,it would stimulate persons' thinking,very useful game.
But it should be online chess for 2 players,because playing Chess with comp is not very fair play for an ordinary human.

An another admin is about to delete me-the DOSFreak is after me,he never expressed,what particular reason he has against me,he & 1 ordinary user was offending me & accussing me also unfounded of trolling,exploiting data for third parties & scattering the forum,I did not yet meet another admin,thus I thought, he is the local god(boss,forum owner...) here,as he behaved so.
He is that admin,who most probably is about to delete me,I am still convinced,he will do so,I also thought, he deleted my signature.
He never explained, what I do wrong by his measures,he just blowed accussions to me,suggested,I am creating bad treads or so.
His expressions r harder to understand than my,also to some others.
Many of my topics,he suggested being inappropriate, looks to be liked by other users,which shows the opposite.
Look to the "Miss Laptop..." tread,if it still exists to know more.
His behavior looked like he is hating me & that he is determined to get rid of me,then I had to guess the reason,also based on my experiences from WinWorldPC.
So by 2 aggressors I mean him & 1 user,who very despectfully atacked me in my tread about SMR HDDs.
I was sure,DOSFreak also deleted my signature, because it was about him & it was a part of my evasive maneuver attempting to move my topics to e-mail discussion due to awaited deletion by Mr.DOSFreak.
It is logical to assume,that if someone dislike me & he can delete me,y he would not do so...
Thus I prepared to withdraw & move to my own means,where r no admins.
It is clear,an ordinary user cannot win a conflict with an admin,as a game-creature cannot bite me,when I have God Mode activated,thus it could only be solved by evasive maneuver & withdrawing from an area under his control.

XP did, was the move to X64 OS's that killed Pinball. There is an interesting video here on the history

XP's Pinball doesn't suck 100% CPU all the time. 😀

I apply NoGDIHWAcceleration compatibility shim on modern NT versions because otherwise, ball just sorta fades at high speeds. There's something funky about desktop compositing + GDI on Windows 7+, you can see it in eg. file view in 7-Zip, Registry Editor etc. if you make a selection rectangle and move the mouse to change it, you can notice some sort of flickering.

Despite some flaws, I stopped worrying about them by the time Windows 10 was out for a couple of years. I guess it's Win10 for me when it comes to computers. Mobile...well, the only thing I really ever used was Android. Briefly tried Firefox OS, but it wasn't practical.

I like Windows XP (32 bit) and Windows 7 (64 bit).

My interest does not extend that far back to the days of DOS/Win 9x. I have tried DOS and Windows 9x on various virtual machines but never felt a connection with them. I even tried FreeDOS on real hardware but had the same reaction, lack of enthusiasm, so I eventually deleted it.

I also use Windows 10 and Linux for modern programs and games.

I guess 10 for me because it's well supported and just works...most of the time. And I was always more into stuff I can run on the OS rather than the OS itself.

If I was a paranoid conspiracy theorist I would suspect MS are deliberately trying to make the desktop experience as frustrating as possible in order to drive sales of their Surfaces.

Honestly, I'm not sure, but it's probably Haiku. For vintage purposes, I guess Mac OS 9 and Windows NT 3.51, with 95 as a close second.
