I've been trying for a few days now to use an Aydigy 2 Value (sb0400) on Windows 98 SE. I've tried to use the drivers from a few of the cd images on this sites drivers page. I've tried the "Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Install CD", the "Sound Blaster Audigy Install CD for ME/2000/XP" and I've also found an Audigy XP cd. None has worked.
There is a picture of an Audigy 2 Value cd but I haven't found it.
I've tried adding the identifier in .inf file.
In all cases an error is reported in the Device manager.
The Creative site doesn't have any Windows 98 SE drivers for this card.
Does anyone use this card on Windows 98 SE and how have you managed it?
I'd appreciate any help.

The drivers don't recognise this card on windows 98 or windows me iirc, I have the original CD for the Audigy 2 Value, you need the version of the drives for the Value specifically then install them via inf it uses different chip than the Audigy 2 ZS. I'll see if i can get the CD uploaded somewhere.

Edit: Achive.org download linky: https://archive.org/details/sb-install_202005

Unfortunately this cd didn't work either. Then main setup says it supports ME or later. I tried installing the drivers straight from the audio/drivers folder using the CTZAPXX.exe and the install completed but after the reboot in the device manager the card reports an error with the drivers.

on 98SE you have to force the driver manually via the inf file can be done through control panel.

I think I don't know how to do that. Are there any instructions on how to do that?
I'm guessing it's not via Device Manager->Update/Reinstall Driver.

EDIT: What I mean is that the driver did install - it shows up in the device manager as "Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)" but there is a yellow warning and inside it says that there is a problem with the drivers.

EDIT 2: I'd like to mention that the Soundblaster Audigy 2 Value SB0400 has the E10K2.5.

I recently was given one of these cards and the ISO on archive.org will definitely not work for Windows 9x and this card... except for the gameport as this CD is only for Win2k/XP.

The Creative site doesn't have Win9x drivers available either, just some updated applications.

Edit: It looks like the KX drivers version 3537 should work. I will test when I get a chance.
https://github.com/kxproject/kX-Audio-driver-binaries

3537 is the last version that supports Windows 98. 98 support was removed starting in version 3538 per the version history.

Going to resurrect this post since it was the only one I could find when searching Google and I actually did get the card to work in Win98 after a few days of trial and error.

The link synrgy87 provided is in fact correct: https://archive.org/details/sb-install_202005 but what you need to do is run CTZAPXX.exe from the \Audio\Drivers folder. The only option available will be WDM. I haven't been able to sort out VXD after trying nearly every Audigy 2 Value install I could find on the internet, this is the only one that will actually recognize the drivers with an SB0400 and I don't see VXD in the install unless I am missing something.

It should take around 5-10 minutes for the install to complete, if the system hangs after asking for the Windows 98 disk, just reboot the system and the drivers will still show up and work (You can also uninstall the device and let windows re-install the driver on startup if you are worried about a bad install.) I also noticed that running the install from the desktop instead of a mounted image seemed to be bit more stable but nothing to substantiate that claim

Trying to manually install the .INF will also not work, once Windows is done installing on reboot it will just show Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM)" with a yellow exclamation mark.

After install I tested the card with a few games. Half Life GOTY would hang when enabling EAX but Undying and Creative Goldmine EAX Demo both worked without any issues. I will test some more titles out when I have some spare time but it does appear to be stable and working. Will also update thread if I can figure out how to get VXD drivers to work.

Specs used for testing:

P3 1G 100 Slotket
512 100
p2-99 Mobo
AMD 9250 128/128

Cheers!

Simply the best way to install Sound Blaster Audigy in Win98.
Thank’s very much to Joseph_Joestar

I would like to ask the forum administrators to make his guides, on installing Sound Blaster Live and Audigy in Windows9x and DOS, always relevant discussions given their great usefulness.

I did but it would not recognize the drivers from that install for some reason. I think it's because the Value uses a EMU10K2.5 chipset which is a stripped down Audigy 2 ZS. I will probably just grab a cheap SB0350 off eBay and call it a day but this should work in the meantime xD

Allright, so after a few weeks of trying to find VxD drivers for the SB0400, I have come to the conclusion that they simply do not exist. I have tried all variations of Audigy 2, Joestar's etc. and none of them work. If you have this card and happen to stumble across this thread, it will run on w98 with the drivers from this ISO https://archive.org/details/sb-install_202005 (or any other Audigy 2 Value install) but only with WDM and you might run into some compatibility issues with EAX (crashing, freezing etc.). With XP it's completely stable.
