It made me think of old game stores for some reason. Imagine if it was a game store and you could pick the game and then install and play it.... kind of VRish 😀
Eye of the Beholder was my first game I made map for, wow it was in old time ago 😀
I used squared notebook for it, one move in game one square in notebook.
lots of post here brings nice memories .

Maybe not my initial thought in this thread but its definitely a welcome topic, i like that fact that you still have the drawn map 😀 I wonder how many variations were drawn and if enthusiasts could recognise the game from the hand drawn maps

Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a set of 5 custom maps I’ve been working on, each with a totally different theme:
1. 🛍️ A retro-futuristic shopping mall – think synthwave meets early 2000s arcades.
2. 🏜️ Yotvata, Arava Desert (Israel) – based on the real desert location, complete with sun-baked roads and gas station vibes.
3. 🛰️ The spaceship from Lost in Space (1998) – recreated in full detail from the movie, with sci-fi lighting and claustrophobic corridors.
4. 🏠 A virtual replica of my father’s house – done from memory and old photos, for that surreal “personal level” experience.
5. 🛸 “The Megatron Restaurant” – a custom map set inside a bizarre sci-fi diner run by a giant robot.
It’s a fully playable map inspired by late-90s shooters and fast food fever dreams.

Built using the Custom-NetRadiant and Blender 3D tools and Quakes engines – heavy inspiration from Quake III-era design.
Textures are a mix of original work, movie references, and retro game assets.
Would love feedback, suggestions, or just to hear which one you'd want to play first.

that padmall one, with the car, made me think of a team or deathmatch in which players can use cars as well as run around! of course that would be down to the game engine not the map, but still, its a fun idea. i'm sure plenty of games have this in multiplayer (eg gta 5) but not for old school games
And Hey retro fans,
I’ve just released a brand new custom map called WWF ARENA, inspired by the classic golden era of wrestling.
Whether you grew up with Hulk Hogan, Macho Man, or the Ultimate Warrior, this map is a tribute to that unforgettable energy of the late '80s and early '90s.

Feedback is welcome – would love to hear what fellow retroheads think.
Enjoy & stay old-school!
Earlier this summer I was working on some quake maps. Apparently I had to learn the same lesson twice. It's just a great big time sink 🙁
I did Doom 2 maps. I once build a city map, which turned out really well, but it was way too large.
Same with DNF. I build a city, maybe one of the most beautiful maps I've build for the game... I ended up reaching the most building blocks possible the game engine could handle, so the last building was done in a rush to have at least an ending to the map if you want to play it in single player.
I'll have a look and see if I can find some screenshots.
My childhood room at the WoP game.

I did. And still do.
Started with Warcraft II and Starcraft maps/campaigns as a kid.
Lately still make maps/campaigns for WCIII at times; although I'm more into making skins/cosmetics and other digital assets for modern games, such as Counter-Strike 2, as of late.
MY SYSTEMS...
main: i7-12700KF + 64 GB DDR5 @ 6200 + RTX 4070 FE

NAS: E3-1230 v2 + 32 GB ECC + 2 x 18 TB
mobile: X9000 + 4 GB

What DNF, 98, 2001, 2011?? I'm very curious about it. I did like 80% of the custom maps in the ModDB for DNF 2001!!

My bad, it was Duke3D, for some reason I had DNF in my head. It's been a while.
