The lot arrived, and it doesn't look like it took any more damage. It was filthy, but it cleaned up nicely! I will test it out when I get some time (after straightening some pins and checking for shorts of course).

If it shows any signs of life at all I will recap the whole thing, replace the dented crystal and the broken plastic around the Sony connector. Then it will just be a matter of getting a bracket that fits it. Not sure if any other cards could act as donors, but that would be the preferred way since a GUS deserves a real metal back plate rather than something 3D printed.

I clearly recall someone on vogons posting about making new metal brackets but I can't find the relevant post.
Maybe someone else can shine a light on this.

as for the gus max ram upgrade, you might be able to use some ram of a video card.

I've been cutting stainless steel strips on a laser machine for two years now 😀
there are already strips for more than 80 different boards

Cool !
Do you also make brackets that have a stiffening part ? ie the long edge is a little wider and the extra width is bent over to stiffen the bracket ?

Right to repair is fundamental. You own it, you're allowed to fix it.

My riskiest purchase yet, an untested EGA monitor for $200. That was the first I've seen locally since 2019 so I had to go crazy and bought it.
I felt so relieved when I saw this image!

Nice monitor! Indeed you don't see EGA stuff very often. By the way, turn the stand a quarter. 😉

Thanks, I tried but it's stuck a little and I'm too afraid to force it. 😁

No, this is a laser cut bend.

Wow, I'm jealous! EGA monitors are hard to come by and yours looks sweet.

Wow that ATi logo is toasty brown. This is why I rarely go for these full passive video cards. Great looking design, quiet, but unless the previous owner had good case ventilation or - preferably - hat a fan blowing right at the card (witch seems to be the case with your card judging by the 80mm zalman fan), then it's already dead. I suppose the browning of the ATi logo could be from an attempt to run the card passive then, as I find it hard to believe it got that toasted during regular use with a fan blowing on it. It would go to what, 60-70C tops?

That 3850 AGP is sweet... fastest AGP card ever released. I've been looking for one for a long while, came across a couple, both dead (bad bridge chip). I have a 4670, but despite what reviews say, it's in fact noticeably slower then the 3850.

Great finds as usual.

Yeah, unfortunately the Radeon 9800 Pro was likely running without the fan as the fan and bolts were still in the original bag. I did see the brown-ness (is that a word?) of the sticker and bought it knowing it was "untested." Sadly, the card is artifacting quite heavily when detected so it's either toast or almost on the way out and more of a museum piece in the box.

Ah, I see... I was hoping it was in running condition...

Another risky purchase, an untested Pentium 60. I probably won't be able to test it in my lifetime so I consider it working.

You could search a mainboard for it, but those are hard to come by.

Another GPU to add to the hw lot along the faves of K7V and P6S5AT... another V3 2000 PCI.

I wonder if it'd be a good idea to attempt Alienware's switching GPU thingy with the P6S5AT.

I've yet to see a socket 4 board in the wild so I'm not that optimistic. 😁

I see them on Ebay a bit, not quite as often as I see socket 5/8 boards though.

True, wouldn't want to spend $100-200 on a board with no upgrade options though just to test a $25 CPU. Maybe I'll ask around the local retro community to see if someone has it and maybe willing to test it for me.

Today's score is an ABIT KV7, almost complete in box (only IO shield missing). Also came with a Thermaltake cooler and an Athlon 1333.

Hi

I got my hands on not only 1 but 2 Yamaha Sound Edge SW20-PC sound Cards
Can someone please update the "rare sound card" file to include little bittzy moi ? 😀
This is absolutely mind blowing ! I have installed one on windows 98 and seems to work fine but this is definitely a card for deep extensive exploration in the weeks/months to come
Unfortunatly I cannot keep both and I am selling one of them

I dont know if i can ask this here on VOGONS but if not I will edit this post ... I am asking 400€ on a marketplace site for it ... do you think it is a reasonable price for such a rare card?

here are some pictures of this beauty

Just paid $120 on ebay for Logitech ifeel mouse. Maybe too much but its brand new and i really wanted to try it.
Planning to use it for Black&White as im currently playing it, and i read it has great support. Also playing in Stereo3D so its nice to have full immersion on all fronts.
