The fans are so bad and the cooler is so horrible to work on that I would value a fully functional 5950 Ultra with good fans at about 1/5 the value of one of these:

I think a complete aftermarket cooling solution for those shiny dual fan turds is the best way to make them usable again. If someone wants to collect them with the original cooler style, they can have all the dead cards that were run too long with bad fans. There are thousands of them out there floating around (either FX series or 6000 series).

I'm so glad that cooling technology has improved as much as it has. The pre-7800GTX times were very dark indeed.

Decided to just grab a 3rd party cooler rather than try and mess with the original cooler, Ill keep the original incase I ever decide to sell the card in the future.

Went with one of these which should work pretty well as its designed for just the 5900XT.

I think the Sparkle FX5900XT's cooler turned out pretty good, it's still quiet and efficient.

Thats a much nicer cooler than the gainward one design wise.

Mine uses some GOOFY AHH HUEG cooler that came off... a 9600Pro.

Yeah, I had no other coolers to use on it. Came from a scrapper in a GPU lot and was the only card to work without any issues.

Did two things today,

Attempted to test more on my Kaypro 10's no-post issue, disconnected everything from the board, different combos, double checked voltage from the power supply (completely on spec actually, 5.0, 11.9, -12.1) and all that jazz trying to get it to behave any differently and sadly nope, just the damn blinking cursor it's had since I got it.

Also tried to get Pools of Radiance running on my Hyundai Super 16 (Turbo) to no avail. Double checked my graphics settings and got everything set for color leading to a monochrome monitor and no dice, start disk works but then the overlay disk attempts to load and eventually gives up on blinking cursor. I am cursed to stare at blinking cursors. Also found out that Mode CO40 and Mode CO80 produce a "not supported by this machine" error when they are used. Not surprising tbh.

Thinking I might kick on my Vectra VE later and play a bit of Thunderscape since I downgraded it's drive to a 8gb instead of a 120gb (it can only handle under 8gb drives) and trashed my saves in the process.

It's a very nice cooler, especially new. Really silent, no bearing noise

Cant see the ram modules as they're covered by the cooler on the front. There aren't any ram modules on the back. The guy from slovakia ebay had a number of them for sale, new old stock when i purchased it in September last year (checked email invoice:
12.99 euros + 7.70 euros p&p + 4.14 euros tax = 24.83 euros shipped to the UK. I should've ordered more at the time, although its only deigned specifically to be used for this card only

Looks like he's out of stock.

I would tell you mine but both front and back memory ICs are under heat sinks, mine is a 256Mb card, its a Golden Sample too so it might even OC a bit once I get the new cooler on it.

Need to find an elegant solution for my elsa gloria iii quadro 2 pro and Ti4200 which have a zalman heat sink with removednoisy fan and a chinese flower cooler with noisy fan. Currently got some quiet fractal design case fans strapped onto them using cable ties and powered using dupont wires

I would switch them out for some Noctua 40/50 mm fans, they are small and quiet.

Also got reacquainted with using MS intellimouse 5 button optical usb 1.1 using a ps2 adapter. Forgot how awesome these mice are especially in win 98 with ps2rate upped to 100 Hz. Pet peeve was having to keep USB enabled on motherboard which would cause irq issues as I'm really fond of my wireless logitech m590 optical mouse. With this, I'm happy to use a PS/2 solution and have USB permanently off. have another used one spare. Used to use these a lot in the 2000's

Just scored a nice LE-1660 for my AM2 AGP setup, 2.8Ghz single core rocket !

its a low voltage CPU so perhaps I can convince it to run at 3Ghz with a few FSB tweaks .. not sure if the Biostar K8M800 will let me as its not designed for OCing.

I was on the lookout for a good 939 AGP board and nForce3 was really nice to have.

So today I took care of it and got it working. Turns out we have an exploded polyfuse in the Firewire section - that's what I call irony!

I removed the burned part and cleaned everything. The PCI slot will need replacement if it is ought to look like new again at some point. But so far - the board works just fine and will be my primary testing platform from now on.

So today I took care of it and got it working. Turns out we have an exploded polyfuse in the Firewire section - that's what I call irony!

I removed the burned part and cleaned everything. The PCI slot will need replacement if it is ought to look like new again at some point. But so far - the board works just fine and will be my primary testing platform from now on.

I was hoping that the cap had damaged that PCi slot and traces under it, would have been a good repair job fixing that mess.

me . .I would have just removed the slot, patched the damaged traces to prevent shorts and called it a day.

Fuck trying to solder a new PCi slot in place with damaged traces.

Alas it was just a cap and some smudge.
