Correct. Super shiny, doesn't look like it's ever been used. Same goes for the DFI motherboard.
Scored this MSI KM4M today in a good deal, its fully working.
its got a 2500+ and 2Gb memory so itll be added to my Athlon XP collection, I think this is a KT400 chipset but only does 333FSB ...Im not well versed in the KT400 boards.

Personally, I've never had luck with the Fx5700.

Very cool! I love the look of these red Athon XP boards. It's a great foundation for a "team red" build: Athlon XP + fast ATI card + red cables, red fans, etc. : )

I wonder what the actual problem is, mine works fine and the Windows 98 login via finger print sensor is pretty cool. But I haven't tested the system for very long, so there might be stability issues.

OTOH, desoldering of such big chips from boards with huge planes isn't easy-going, too. *#!+*Following the picture on theretroweb there must have been a heatsink. That would explain this kind of damage. Still a wild performance doing this without leaving ANY other traces of brute force.

I've always wondered how much they actually get from ripping all these heat sinks off ..it cant be much unless they are doing this to thousands of motherboards every day.
Its the same argument I have with gold scrappers and their obsession with scrapping CPUs ...the cost of the CPUs, chemicals, time and other materials used to extract the tiny amount of gold is greater than the amount of cash you get back from selling that tiny lump of gold. The one I saw was scrapping a lot of 512k Pentium Pro CPUs which cost him something like 250 bucks for 10 of them, and after the scrapping he got less than 50 bucks back in gold. Just checking and here in Australia they are selling on eBay for ~100 bucks each, fuck scrapping them, I would be selling them.
So why do they bother ?
Their usual reply is because it pisses people like me off ...or I get the lame ass reply of because I want to.
To which I just shake my head, I mean its your money so go ahead and keep wasting it, the only conclusion I get from such scrappers is that they are morons.

All those gold pins are plated copper/brass/whatever precisely because gold is expensive. It's only used as an anti corrosion barrier - not so much because it is electrically great. If it was for that, it would be a large component of solder, and other wires.
A couple of microns of gold achieves that.

One thing would be - the market for stuff like this is extremely limited and prices like this are only created by resellers. There is no actual shortage of parts - they are just all hoarded by people trying to make a profit by selling them at stupid prices. Actually selling at this price may take more time and effort than it seems, unless the price is set sufficiently lower than average to interest resellers.
Like i see GF7950GT AGP selling on a local ebay alternative for around $500, and it has been there for at least half a year. Will someone eventually buy it? Most likely. Is that a significant income over such period of time? Most definitely not.
Scrapping, on the other hand, may produce much smaller amount of money, but much more reliably...

May is the point here, but only if you can lower the cost in both time and money of extracting the gold to below the amount of cash return you get which is almost impossible for the average scrapper since the chemicals required can be rather expensive and in a few places require government authorization to purchase/dispose of once used, then there is the cost of time you put into it ... you as an average Joe wont be making much if any profit from extracting gold from electronics.
CPUs/PCBs contain a lot of nasty heavy metals that get leached out in the gold extraction ...you don't want that shit going down the drains so that is also going to cost you to get rid of if you care about the environment at all.
I find backyard gold extraction to be a pointless expensive exercise, now if we are talking about proper industrial extraction then sure they can make bank but that's a totally difference scale of business.
Also the. .7950GT AGP is quite a rare card, not seen many of them in the wild, but 500 is expensive, perhaps they are in no rush to sell it so dont care how long it sits there.

The reality is usually much nastier - someone doing this probably has easier access to the chemicals one way or another and in reality nobody cares about pollution/environment , money>>>>all, they'll just dump everything down the drain. Happens all the time even in more... "civilized" countries...
The same way many other things work - like whole cryptocurrency thing is usually only profitable if electricity and sometimes hardware is stolen, etc.
For a normal person, on the other hand, yes - it is not going to make sense.
Apart from that what makes sense is selling to companies which can do proper industrial extraction. And not necessarily gold only. Nothing bad about this - it is essentially recycling...

Yes, obviously. But at the same time it does absolutely nothing and does not benefit them in any way just sitting there. It'll sell eventually and $500 will seem like a good money, but it takes so long this is not really a way to earn money.
