Installing a different version of the Ti4200 driver didn't help, and required a few go arounds before it would "catch" so possibly the whole config of the Ti4200 is now a bit messed up. Works in 3DMark though.

I did not find the BIOS setting of the link above in my BIOS. Any other suggestions, or should I just do a clean reinstall and see if TOCA will work when installed ASAP after installing W98, chipset drivers and Ti4200 45.23?

Tried it with 128mb ram, no difference.

So I think I'll do a fresh pc reinstall: w98, chipset drivers, interleave patch, 512mb patch, then ti4200 45.23, then toca2 and see what happens.

I'll reinstall using the Via 4in1 4.43, which is the correct one for my VT82C694X chipset. I was using 4.35 in the current setup. As one of the items in the 4in1 is AGP, it might be related to my issue.

The BIOS has AGP 4x (my Northbridge supports this). I'll leave it at that setting as it's the default. The Nvidia drivers might drop it to 2x if they're scared of the word VIA, or not. Depending on the combo of drivers.

Format c, win98, via 4in1 4.43, interleave enabler, ti4200 45.23 incl dx6 and coolbits...toca 2 works but complains about z buffer when loading the main menu. Dx7: toca2 works! The menus have some flickery artifacts (vsync enabled) but the game runs fine.

This is with the ti, I want to run it with the voodoos eventually. But they're not yet installed.

Anyway the ti4200 runs at agp4x now! But 3dmark99 crashes somewhere halfway through the tests. I believe that's why I had drivers 81.98 in the past. I'll try those again and hope it doesn't kill toca nor agp4x.

I'm going to prioritize games over 3dmark. Ti4200 45.23 is just so much faster than 81.98. And I can still do a 3DMark99 if I let it only do the first 10 or so tests.

So I've done yet another reinstall with 45.23 and I'm doing the dance now. Up next: voodoo install and check toca2 again.

Ok, setting the nvidia driver to agp 2x stopped the flickering/polygon z fighting artifacts. All well there, these mobos are known for not being fully agp 4x compatible.

After installing the voodoos, I get the exact same error as in post 1 when launching toca2 setup. I can still play toca2 with the 4200 though, as that one already was configured in the setup earlier.

So, problem half solved: problem remains but I can play the game (with the 4200 at least, but that works fine too). As long as I never reinstall it . ..

I'll copy the config file to cover that scenario.
