Lol, looks like it's actually Compaq N800w with fireGL 9000, not the 7500 one. The screen was swapped, but mb is from more powerful model.

Has anyone here ever managed to swap the cells of the batteries for new ones? The batteries of my compaqs hold very little charge now.

Anyone has Windows 2000 or XP recovery discs for N600c?

I recently got a late model N600c with 1.2 PIII Tualatin, and I only found a restore CD for Windows 98 SE, which I restored from and it works 😀
But I would prefer to restore the Win2K as the machine originally came with (has a COA).
Also it has 512MB of RAM which is perfect for Win2K.

Sorry, took some time for my lazy ass 😭

Uploaded all disks I have. To restore compaq n400c or n600c you need disk 1 and 2.

Dont give up hope for the nc400c and its graphics. I have tested GTA VC and Unreal with Rage3 and 8MB, better worked D3D at Unreal for me and for Unreal even my Benchmark OpenGL settings worked if OpenGL selected, but it wont work for every game. Try Unreal D3D with 226f or 225f. Quake2 is very smooth with OpenGL Max and Fast settings. Thief 1 game should work ok, i havent tested it myself, but someone else did with my driver.

Thief: Re: ATi RagePro drivers and software
GTA VC: Re: ATi RagePro drivers and software
Unreal: Re: ATi RagePro drivers and software

Best ATi Rage3 drivers for 3DCIF / Direct3D / OpenGL / DVD : ATi RagePro drivers and software
30+MiniGL / OpenGL Win 9x dll files for all ATi Rage3 cards : Re: ATi RagePro OpenGL files

No chance for ATI M1 on my side. It might seem to work at first glance, but in detail, it's just not good. For example, in Thief, some polygons are missing on the bow – and who knows what else might be missing. The same issues come up with Unreal; I was never able to get it running properly, and there was always something not working right. So, I ended up selling all my M1 machines. Now, the earliest hardware I use is M6.

Hello guys! Just wanted to inform, that I've used these CD-s in order to restore compaq factory like my n410c, successfully. Only the VGA was missing, and the UGT Driver, which was updated and gone from with the help of the legacyupdate.net.
- The VGA driver is the SP27665.exe
- The used restore CDs: https://archive.org/details/cpq-restore-disc-1_202506

Maybe not 100% for the 410, but closer than a plain installation.
Only thing is missing, that the FN and other keys or even OSD if it has any

I had a Compaq Evo N600c for almost 20 years. Mine was a 1 GHz P3. It was a great laptop. Although when the battery died, it got progressively trickier to turn it on. I had to remove the battery, reinsert it, and turn it on with the little bit of charge from the battery, then plug the charger into it. For some reason when I plugged it in first, it would power on for a split second, then turn off, and then I couldn't get it to turn on again unless I took the battery out like described above. It got to be a major PITA. Eventually even that trick I mentioned didn't work anymore, and I was never able to turn it back on. I used to have drivers for it, but I can't find them now.
