Someone mentioned on the Radeon 9xxx / Win95 threads that later Catelyst driver packages for Win9x only included WDM drivers. Those can't work with Windows 95 at all.

I suspect that packages after Catalyst 4.3 (which predates PCIE support by about half a year) don't include VXD drivers compatible with Windows 95.

Edit: corrected the Catalyst version number.

I tested different Catalyst drivers from 3.1 to 6.2 but none works in Win95 🙁
Drivers from 3.1 to 4.2 not support ATI X300 and I installed manually choosing the first on the list, i.e. ALL-IN-WONDER 9000. Only 6.2 supports this card but it doesn't work anyway.

The driver installer displays interesting information:

3.6 & 3.7 - in English:

The attachment 36_7-91_no_DX9_EN.png is no longer available

3.8 - same but localized:

The attachment 38_7-94_no_DX9_PL.png is no longer available

3.9 - 4.2 - localized (Setup was unable to find components that can be installed on your current hardware or software configuration, Please make sure you have the required hardware or software.)

The attachment 39_7-95_PL.png is no longer available

I also tried the Win98SE, the driver 6.2 works but as soon as I start something that requires a 3D screen freezes and the system hangs - it's the same as in WinXP

In Win98SE I also tried NVIDIA 6200 card - different drivers but on each system hangs, a black screen is made, etc. 🙁

I also tried the PCI S3 Virge 4 MB VRAM cards, and it works OK, max. resolution is 1280x1024 16-bit but normally I don't want to use the PCI graphics card because I have Sound Blaster Live!

If I had to guess, it's DirectX version limit that's screwing you over. Win95 "tops out" at 8.0a : https://falconfly.vogonswiki.com/directx.html
When driver expects files from DX9, and they are not there... expect issues.

Yeah, that's in line with my experience. ATI's PCIE drivers just have too many dependencies on software features that Win95 doesn't support. When ATI described their drivers for "Win9x", they really meant Windows 98 SE and Me.

I really wish an affordable AGP-to-PCIE adapter existed.

For Windows 98, I think the drivers need DirectX 9 and Internet Explorer 6.0 installed first. That's the order I use when I set up a Win98 install on modern hardware.

I moved to another PC with motherboard AIMB-786, Intel CPU 8 Gen Coffee Lake, 16 GB RAM

Now I'm trying to run the NVIDIA 6200 PCIe Card in Win95. To run the Win95 system you need to additionally CREGFIX.COM, otherwise there is a VCACHE error.

After install GPU driver (66.94 or modded 82.69) Win95 not boot and reboot. I tried:

PATCHNVC NVCORE.BAK NVCORE.VXD

but it doesn't help. I have a question - do I have to do it to use patch also patch BIOS, OPTIONROM and FIXINTR VXD ???

Maybe I need use other patch: ShutdownPatcher - how use it?

It probably doesn't get an IRQ. I have a similar situation on my X299.
FIXEOI maybe. I wouldn't recommend an optionrom...
It gets the VGA IRQ on my Zen2, B450 board, and 3 other machines too.

The 3 body problems cannot be solved, neither for future quantum computers, even for the remainder of the universe. The Proton 2D is circling a planet and stepping back to the quantum size in 11 dimensions.

I tried all drivers FIX*.* but always error that device file is damaged.
