9. Next is Aquamark 3, a directx 9 benchmark with proper hardware sound - that realtek 658 can not take advantage of!
First is the default score at 1024*768 no AA, no sound, AF 4X:
1. nforce3
2. VIA

9.
3. ULI
4. nforce4
nforce4 starts again strong in this benchmark and takes the lead!
10. 1024*768 max details + sound:
1. nforce3
2. VIA
10.
3. ULI
4. nforce4
11. Again an advantage for nforce4, small but an advantage nevertheless.
We switch to 1280*1024 max details without sound first:
A. nforce3
B. VIA
11.
C. ULI
D. nforce4
12. nforce4 remains on top; let's see how things are standing when we test with sound:
1280*1024 max details. sound on:
A. nforce3
B. VIA
12.
C. ULI
D. nforce4
13. nforce4 wins by the slimmest of margins!
1600*1200 - the grand daddy of retro resolutions:
A. nforce3
B. VIA
13.
C. ULI
D. nforce4
14. Final and most demanding settings: 1600*1200 max details + sound:
A. nforce3
B. VIA
14.
C. ULI
D. nforce4
Across all resolution and settings nforce4 manages to stay on top even if by a hair!
15. We go back to 3dmark 2000 - the only DirectX 7 test:
1024*768 default settings:
A. nforce3
B. VIA
C. ULI
D. nforce4
For the first time we got a meaningful difference - over 5% - as nforce4 leads by a great amount!
16. 3dmark 2000 - 1280*1024 max details:
A. nforce3
B. VIA
C. ULI
D. nforce4
Clearly ULI has problems with the Radeon as evidenced by the results! Note that cool and quiet was deactivated on all the systems otherwise in 3dmark you would get abysmal scores: <10000!
17. 3dmark 2000 - 1600*1200
A. nforce3
B. VIA
C. ULI
D. nforce4
NVIDIA nforce4 takes no prisoners in this older benchmark!
18. No introduction needed for the next test: 3dmark 2001! Default settings first.
A. nforce3
B. VIA
C. ULI
D. nforce4
19. 3dmark 2001 - 1280*1024 maxed out!
A. nforce3
B. VIA
C. ULI
D. nforce4
20. 3dmark 2001 - 1600*1200
A. nforce3
B. VIA
C. ULI
D. nforce4
20. As you have seen in the screenshot with the Abit NV8 system Radeon X1950 PRO can do 6x antialiasing. However I chose to test with AA 4x for 2 reasons: direct comparison with NVIDIA's geforce 7800gs that can do only 4x AA and in order to not overwhelm the radeon in directx 9 benchmarks and games.
Here is the result for Abit NV8 at 1600*1200 AA 4X:
The results seems to be split in 2 groups: one with nforce3 and ULI and one with nforce4 and VIA! Again nforce4 leads the others across all resolutions! Also Radeon is capable of higher scores with a stronger CPU in 3dmark 2001!
