Yes i made clean Windows install and regular driver install and ATi2Drab driver works with CIF.
Dont get your hopes up with Rage XL PCI, but as ATi2drab is Mobility driver, then there maybe.
I checked it with Rage Pro and XL AGP and there CIF works. I send soon some driver, thank you.
Take this new ATi2Drab driver as Test-DriveR for ATi3DCIF / also D3D + OpenGL menu is added.
Menu is added automatically, does settings work or work for all settings, i dont know at now.

Unofficial 5.38.x 2611 and 5.40.x 2611 drivers + new ATi2Drab drivers are working with 3DCIF
Gona should update table soon, RageXL AGP / Rage2+/C did got newer CIF compatible drivers.
New to be released ATi2Drab has 3DCIF and maybe it can be add 3DCIF to the Rage 3 Mobility.
https://gona.mactar.hu/ATI3DCIF/

Workaround fixes, not 100 real fixes at soon to be released first ATi2Drab drivers with 3DCIF. 😀
Use some of the easy fixes if you have similar or same issues that i had, now its already better.

1 error
Abybody knows how to hide ingame mouse cursor with Win9x or make it invisible at gaming?
old ati2drab.drv file issue, but i cant update it to newer if i want to stay with 3dcif compatible.

Solution, use non windows default cursors, download cursor file (.cur) and it does not show up where its not needed.

Downloaded some cursors from here and used Win9x
https://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-detail/143448

First tought about to use invisble cursor, not needed it
https://www.rw-designer.com/cursor-detail/143446

Downloaded .cur file even not needed Win9x ones OK
Look added picture what to change in the mouse tabs

2 error at the moment, i check other driver base with 4.11.1027 drv
https://www.hresult.info/FACILITY_DIRECT_DRAW/0x88760249
3DMark and other programs may to show some DD erros on them.
Same time Turok D3D game worked well, need to test more games.

Solution: DirectDraw errors are with specific Rage3 cards, not all. 😀
Old Rage Pro worked well.Soon it will be available, but not at now
Its not gona be the best driver, but new menu and new base files.
Gives possibilites to use newer D3D file and newer DX7/DX8 base

3 error that this driver has, but there are some workarounds of it
Rage XL/RageLTPro OpenGL does not work, but Rage Pro or Turbo
runs well on ATi OpenGL, try this driver out@Mobility, thank you!
I have 0 Mobility card and if in luck, the CIF also works, dont know.

Solution : ATi OpenGL starting with specific Rage 3 cards, not all.
Solution2:Use glide2cif / latest glide2cif +3dfx opengl32-speedy.
Almost or basicly same speed as original ATi OGL without multex.
Also multitexture cant be used out of macxw4 / ati2ddad drivers.
+ you get 8bit paletted textures at OpenGL, like you have in D3D.

Apply this to your game.bat file (glide and 3dfx opengl)
set FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0
GLQuake

Prove me rong about multitexture and i am more happy, right. 😀

3DCIF games already tested, some games need 15bit colors back
One of that game is TombRaider ATi,others dont care of its 16bit
I am talking about 565(16bit) and 555(15bit),ATi default is 15bit
Desktop colors show both way High Color 16bit,under its 16 or 15

Already back then i had this, one thing that changed is ati3dcif.dll and that brings all cif games to the table, not just 1 game (Assault Rigs).

Compaq (HP) original drivers are broken?

From tested cif games, only Croc 1.0 quits before start (maybe pc issue). Speed limiter is 1 ati2drab.drv 4.11.1xxx early file and with newer ones you miss cif and get greater speed. I have tested so far 4.11.1014, 4.11.1019, 4.11.1021,4.11.1024, 4.11.1026,4.11.1027. They work with bundles and out of that bubble you do not get any acceleration at all. All those driver files work with ati2drab versions of atid16ab.dll and atid32ab.dll, i have tested 5031, 5032, 5034 and 5036 (5036 atid16ab.dll only, because 5036 atid32ab.dll is broken file, when unzipped). Driver uses 5036 atid16ab.dll and 5034 atid32ab.dll. I dont like to use AI, but it talks something about ati rage mobility driver 4.11.1031 that i have not found and if it exist, good to use it, thank you!

Driver that will be release will be probably slower than 5.40, but d3d part is newer, i can easly go up to 4.12.1021 d3d file, it much newer than 4.11.4033 one that is used for the 5.38 and 540 releases. I share it beacuse someone can make it better than me and with that we can grow better out of macxw4 and ati2ddad drivers. If i change (edit) 4 files, then i can use them in ati2drae driver as well. Macxw4 and ati2ddad belongs to one driver family and ati2drab and ati2drae to another. ATi2Drab/ae comes to the DX7 level at D3D with CIF compatible driver.

It may happen that Rage2+/Rage2c can be taken to the newer driver releases as well, but with its own older d3d file. Newer drivers where made for Rage2, but no one so far has the ATi 5.39 OEM Win9x driver for Rage cards. Maybe someone reads this and still has it, then share them if you have it, Thank you!

I had some other things todo, but i try to release it later this week and someone still can recommend faster driver base for it, it can be ati2drab or ati2drae, does not matter. Right now i have them on 4.11.2601 and 4.12.2637 drivers. Final reality 3D score is slow at xl agp, its up at 3.17 and if i change 1 ati2drab/ae file it goes up to Final Reality score, 4.14@3D. So maybe i release it as Combo driver, comes with CIF and can be updated to newer 2637 or 2647. I will release it as it is and i will improve it better at later, if there is anything left to increase, i will do it step by step. I hope there is more to come and its truly the first ati2drab/ati2drae 3dcif driver out there, as my 5.40 driver was first driver for Rage XL AGP/Rage2+/Rage2C.

I have not checked DVD part, it all takes time, like i told, i can do it by smaller steps. I have released so many versions already and many are similar ones. Those driver releases are some of the steps for me as well, so to rembember the changes, without it, they may go lost in time, like some other drivers before.

Focus is still on at CIF support, even back then, any tweaked driver did not mention or had no CIF support, for ATi it would not have hard to keep backward compability for the CIF and they did cut it after ati2drab 4.11.1027, macxw4 4.11.2598, ati2ddad 4.11.2611. ATi 5.39 driver maybe would change that for macxw4 and we still miss many drivers, that where available back then, wayback machine does not have it all, just some of it.

Even ATi was very shy about his ATi3DCIF support. Rarely you see CIF mentioned, but sometimes its there.
Added graphics pages from Compaq Deskpro EN manual and waypack machine information from ATi site.
There they mention CIF support with other Rage2 and Rage3 information available back then 1997/1998.

The graphics subsystem includes the following software support:
♦ Accelerated drive support for Windows 3.x, Win95, and WinNT
♦ MS DirectDraw support for Win95
♦ MS ActiveMovie support for Win95
♦ MPEG-1 software playback for DOS, Windows 3.x, and Win95
♦ MPEG-2 software playback Win95
♦ MS Direct3D support for Win95
♦ QuickDraw 3D RAVE support for Win95 and WinNT
♦ OpenGL support for Win95 and WinNT
♦ Heidi support for WinNT
♦ ATI 3D CIF support for Win95

Hey there Marxveix 😀

So I'm hoping to query your vast wisdom for all things Rage 😀

I've just acquired a Rage Fury Maxx card (the one with the two Rage 128 Pro chips). I've heard they can be very interesting to get working properly! I've got a fresh machine here (An Athlon 1800mhz) with a fresh install of Windows 98-SE. The card is in there and works but obviously just runs as a VGA card at the moment, no vendor specific drivers are installed.

Which driver package would you suggest I download and install for this card?

Thank you so much for your advice 😀

Intresting card for sure and to use both cores you need win9x os.
I have used single Rage128Pro only and these are for single cards
For me fastest OpenGL for single card and Win9x is OpenGL 1274
https://www.retrohardware-reviews.de/ati-rage … e-right-driver/

Rage128Pro OpenGL 1274

I have no experience with ATi Rage Fury Maxx, they need special driver
For the Rage Fury Maxx (2xRage128Pro), some Win9x drivers are here:

Thanks for getting back to me Marxveix! Yes I'm aware they will only operate with both chips on 9x, so the system will be a 98SE one, which is fine. Thanks for pointing me to those drivers, I'll have a go with those and hopefully I can get it up and running properly. The Internet is full of stories of people pulling their hair out with these cards, no doubt I'll be joining them shortly.

Thanks for all your efforts helping with Rage cards!

Thanks for the kind words!

Today i release ATi2DRAB-3DCIF driver (soon), but keep in mind that to use it at best, keep your desktop at 640x480x16 and your games also 640x480x16. Screen resolution issue is the biggest issue it has, second is mouse cursor, but for mouse we can use workaround, so it does not bother in gaming or in desktop use i think. All resolution changing issues i have had with ati2drab-3dcif driver latetly, was it with d3d/opengl/cif/wrapper, plus its not that friendly with OpenGL support for all Rage3 cards, as before, i have tested it shortly with Rage XL AGP and Rage Pro, Rage Pro has OpenGL support, but not Rage XL. Use GLDirect 3.0/Latest Glide2CIF with GLQuake or any other tool for it.

D3D/3DCIF/OpenGL works, just with 640x480 resolution its correct at the moment, take it as ATi2DRAB-3DCIF Alpha DriveR.

Desktop 640x480x16 (game the same)
Rage XL AGP - D3D/3DCIF/Wrapper
RageProAGP - D3D/3DCIF/OpenGL/Wrapper

Mobility user can try it also out, still no Mobility M1 to test it out myself with different ATi driver files.

It has many positives also, more with next post with screenshots and driver itself.

ATi2DRAB@3DCIF (ATi M6.12 ATi2DRAB-3DCIF needs DirectX7 or newer DX)

Driver made by me: ATi2DRAB CIF RageTesting (Its First Alpha). Core-base components with 76 files if you remove folders and
some added files and its still works with CIF, First@ATi2DRAB. Rage 3 ATi2Drab requirements for using this Win9xDriver Better.

Resolution issue is biggest + some cards dont accelerate @OGL
This is buggy driver and better to use only 640x480 @ desktop
Desktop/Gaming only at 640x480, maybe lower resolutions work?
All tests over 640x480 is not good, keep 640x480x16 resolution

Rage Pro Tweaker (Any 1.x) - RageTweaker folder
Glide2CIF wrapper and other D3D/CIF - Use 5-6-5 Graphics mode
Most CIF games work well with 16bit 565 also, not all of them
Some ATi3DCIF games like 5-5-5 Graphics mode, like Tomb Raider

15bit 555 for 3dcif / ati3dcif -default
16bit 565 for glide /glide2cif -wrapper

Rage 2 Tweaker Development - RageTweaker folder
Glide2CIF wrapper and other D3D/CIF - Reduce Dithering Effect

Rage2/3 Tweaker settings work after restart - Thank you Neil!

ATi2DRAB CIF Driver Update
If i can make it better i will do it,for now it is,like it is
DVD is untested and i may update it step by step, if possible
This Driver is less tested,3DCIF games and demos work@640x480
Only Croc 1.0 quits after start, try some 3dcif games yourself now.

Play supported Glide games with your ATi Rage3
Glide2CIF folder/ Readme1/2 pictures / Glide2x
Latest Glide2CIF @ vvbee site, readme.txt+pics

OpenGL32.dll 1.49
Use latest v1.49 3Dfx Mini GL with - Glide2CIF + glide2x.dll

GLQuake game example for 3Dfx Glide2x.dll + OpenGl32.dll here
Use latest glide2cif to get faster fps results, thanks vvbee!
Extra performance: Make GLQuake.bat file and add these inside

set FX_GLIDE_SWAPINTERVAL=0
glquake
or
set G2C_SWAPINTERVAL=0
glquake

Workaround for Cursor issue
3DCIF/D3D/OpenGL (AllAPIs) ingame mouse cursor visibility fix
Normal Select mouse Curor or Pointer change to any other .cur
Works also the ones that Win9x has, you can download your own
Change Normal Select to any other and Busy to invisible busy!
Normal/Busy is added to the driver and install with CursorFix

CursorFix /change 3xcur file@cursors
Change Normal Select and Busy cursor
Normal Select-use Normal or Any .cur
Busy-use invisible Busy.cur, thanks!

Also change 1 more cursor if needed!
Change Working In Background, i have
there Windows own Appstart.cur file.
Appstart.cur added if missing @Win9x

ControlPanel->Mouse->Pointers->Browse

ATi own OpenGL
Rage XL/RageLTPro does not Accelerate OpenGL,some other do it.RagePro / Turbo does work and Maybe Mobility cards also work!
Rage Mobility users can also test this driver for CIF@Gaming. OpenGL is downgraded with 4.12.1091,if any issues, change it
Use any OpenGL you like, but it wont fix issue not detecting some cards @OGL support, its ati2drab.drv file and this combo.
I mean old ati2drab.drv file issue,Rage Pro it likes more 😀

Gaming
Use it as Test-DriveR,automatically is added D3D/OpenGL menu.I repeat, use only 640x480x16 resolution for now, Thank you!
I have not tested D3D/OpenGL menu functioning, some settings can be changed with atii9xab.inf and that can be done later.
Anti-aliasing option @grey,some other driver has it enabled, it can be changed, if needed (so i think at least).

All real ATi2Drab drivers base can be used with some changes ,5 files to change and it works any ATi2Drab driver out there.
ATi2DRAE base can be used with changed files from - ATi2DRAB. Hope you like this DriveR, it brings newer D3D file support!
Limiting factor is this old 4.11.10xx file, they are slower. Slower at least with Rage XL AGP, Rage Pro works better +has OGL.

Final Reality on my Slot1 Celeron 533MMX@Rage3:
Scores are better with Rage Pro 4MB vs Rage XL AGP 8MB,what?
Final reality score only 3.17 with XL AGP, change - ati2drab
and you get 4.17. With RagePro 4MBAGP it did get 3.96 points
Did not tested with same ATi2DRAB base again, seems similar!

640x480!
3DMark99 and probably others also work if resolution changed

M6.12 newer driver base,it looks better in Gaming at my test.Screen output looks cleaner / sharper to me,how its for you?
Greater D3D, we are not limited to D3D 4033 any more, yes 😀 . Keep in mind its not perfect driver (resolution and cursor)!

Any improvement can help, All is 1, Thank you All!

Resolution issue is not there with older ati2drab driver base, i make one of the older version with D3D / OpenGL menu automatically added, 2D also works there. Cursor issue i still see in OpenGL if without cursor workaround. Next ati2drab cif driver will be better than the first latest, more buggy one, that i added two days ago (m6.12 ati2drab-3dcif). I will add other ati2drab-cif driver as soon i am ready with it.

Rage II PCI: https://theretroweb.com/expansioncards/s/ati- … -xpression-plus
Rage II didn't work in Direct 3d using the 5.40x2611x3D driver

I had the chance to buy the exact same card (Original Rage II), its limiting factor is 2MB, 3DCIF and Direct3D worked well with 5.40 or 5.38 drivers. Some Direct3D and some 3DCIF demos/games need more than 2MB and some work for both API. Like before, 4MB or more ram would be better. RAM Expansion card i do not have, but it can be added. Older ATi Rage II has cool ATi boot logo, why they removed it for newer cards, it was nice touch. 2MB card i go up to 400x300 at 3D gaming.

Cant see issues from Original Rage II 2MB PCI up to Rage XL 8MB AGP. Rage I cards are more limited and need older driver versions.

There are original Rage II cards out there at 4-8MB and even more Rage III cards with 4-8MB.

Does this look like a correct review of the ATI Age of Rage?

  • Rage1 = Mach 64-GT (pixels per clock 1 : texels per clock ½) 1996-04

XC / XL are Rage 3 cards, but Mobility versions they had at both (Rage3 and Rage4). Did they called the Rage128 Pro at Rage5? I think they skipped Rage5 name and Rage6 was original name or internal name for first Radeon before renaming. Rage128 Pro is still Rage4, but like advanced and updated version of Rage128, like Rage3 updated version is Rage XL / XC and Rage3 Mobility cards.

Thanks for getting the XC, XL, and LT in the right group.

Supported Libraries is a good way to group them.

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ati-rage … review,133.html

I read that the Rage 128 Pro & Ultra added:

  • AGP 4x
  • direct x 6.0 texture compression
  • better texture filtering
  • much better triangle setup engine.

While the Rage 128 Pro can use the same drivers, seems like there were some significant differences under the hood compared to the Rage 128 GL.

Has anyone ever pulled off an apples to apples comparison between the 128 Pro and the 128 GL using the same clock and memory type?

Rage2 / Rage6 (first Radeons) have also some Mobility variations at notebook.
Rage 128 Pro has compression support, but you have to choose the right driver.
Same goes with palleted textures and maybe table fog as well if it even works.
Table fog started to work like it should with XP, Win9x table fog can be messy.
