A question. I wonder if this will work properly with an IDE-SATA adapter on new motherboards that only have SATA ports.

Interesting question.

I think it should work if you force things to run in PIO mode, since all the PATA-SATA bridges I've seen are willing and able to fall back to support PIO in some way or another.

All the PATA-SATA bridges I've seen also support UDMA modes pretty reliably too. But PICOIDE doesn't do UDMA, it tops out at MWDMA.

My experience is that getting MWDMA to work with IDE-SATA adapters can be very difficult. Depends on your IDE controller, IDE driver, & motherboard firmware. It will likely be easier if you start with a Marvell based PATA SATA bridge. People have had better luck with those.

Might just be cheaper & less time consuming to buy a PCI Pata controller if you feel like you have to use a DMA mode.

+1 vote for a 5.25" front panel because what it replaces is a CD-ROM drive and I'm lack of 3.5" slots.

I think same. I really appreciate the idea of PicoIDE, but I want to see a full-size chassis in the future! 😁
Also because of extra space for bigger buttons and a larger screen, I'd be nice to users of big hands. 😃👋

In principle, that's also the case for floppy emulators.
But since they started out to replace/substitute 3,5" 1,44 MB floppy drives, their 3,5" form factor made sense.

PS: Sorry, I'm a bit late to the party! Please everyone go on! 😅

I asked about that on Discord. But it's not in the planning unfortunately. Seems that injection molding a 5.25" frame is quitte expensive.

For me the reason not to buy one atm as I don't like those 5.25" to 3.5" frames and I would also like to have bigger buttons and a larger screen. 😀

I like the idea too. Might be easier if you didn't have buttons.

Does anyone sell a 140mm x 35mm touch screen ?

Maybe this would work?

The attachment image004 (1).jpg is no longer available

Edit: That screen takes HDMI. PICOIDE as it is takes I2C.

If we stick with I2C, there's this for a 1/2 height: https://www.amazon.com/2-42inch-OLED-Display- … B0DLG6MGMH?th=1

Or this could fit in a full height with some tweaking-- https://www.tindie.com/products/displaymodule … module-ssd1322/

Thanks for the info from Discord. What a pity a 5.25" is not on the plan 🙁
Me personally can live with a 3.5" -> 5.25" adapter frame.
Can anyone recommend one in beige color?
They seem hard to find.

Polpo did search for them as well and also discovered that they are not easy to get. 3D printing or spray painting a black one (which are available) could be an option. I still got a couple of beige ones but I'm not using them (because of exact color match etc).

Spray painting a black frame is a very good idea!
