Compaq Presario 5000
P3 \1000 with "Integrated AGP" on the mobo
Came in looking shabby and wouldn't boot up due to the 15 pin video out header hanging on to the mobo via 2 pins.
Replaced the header and boots up fine...
Did a quick retro bright job to some areas of the case
OS: WinME system restore
No AGP slot so now I'm in the process of finding a grade A PCI sloution.

VPR Matrix (Best Buy In House) P4 1.8
Was in really bad shape from the Bay except for the case.
PSU: Shot
CD1: Shot
CD2: Shot
mobo: Cooler mount broken and cpu cooler laying in the bottom of the unit
mobo: Bad trace that needed repair
OS: Win98 SE Quickinstall

Up and running but all I had left in spares for a GPU was a crappy GFX 5200.... So it needs something else at some point

I either fix it or break it permanently... there is no try.

What a lovely 90s beige box there.

Still beige even.

Very pretty.

(Looks like it inhaled something groady though, with that brown gunk on the intake fins there)

Good eye!
I'll take a detail brush to it next time it is out of the rack.

Yeah, these motherboards with onboard AGP are limited in use for Windows gaming (fine for DOS). Good 3D PCI graphics cards are much less plentiful. I guess Geforce FX 5500 would be an obvious choice, but then driver overhead with that CPU will possibly make it perform worse than an older card. Geforce 2 MX400 comes in PCI think, but I have never tried one.

nice rescue!

while not great for 3d games such machines can still be ok for 2d games - RTS, card games, puzzle, those old casual game pack type cds and so on. It can also be a "vintage" office machine, old office suite and productivity software of the time, development tools and so on

GeForce 5200 is in and went from a pitiful 620 3d Marks to 3140.

A good gain and I will keep an eye open for a pci 5500 that isn't unobtainium priced....
