I've been continuing to look on eBay to see if any cheaper 3.06GHz 533 P4s appear on eBay, and recently I just saw a Pentium 4 Mobile HT at 3.06 GHz appear...
What would be the downside of using this over a proper desktop 3.06GHz P4? The cache size seems to be the same, and it's for the same FSB speed, and it's also around £60 cheaper (around £20 and not £80)...
and, if it is worse than the desktop version, how would it compare to just a 2.8 GHz P4 with the same FSB speed?
Also, would it even be compatible with non-mobile motherboards?
(for reference, the only motherboard I have right now that either would go in is the ASUS P4S533-VX, a Northwood/Willamette-only board from an old Sony computer my family had, with a 533MHz FSB speed. Techpowerup states that SL726 is Northwood, so I do wonder if it'd work...)
I want to see just how far I can push my motherboard, but I'm not sure if I'm ready to drop £80 on a Pentium 4 just yet, so if that mobile CPU works and with similar performance I think it'd be an easy choice.
Just a silly lil person in a very big world.
