Any specific reason why that is?

Athlon 64 X2 3800+
256mb ram
Win98SE
Audigy sound
MX 460 64mb DDR
DX7

Getting ~7050 3dMark score.
CPU score was 415, i dont know if thats low or normal.

Reading online it should be more like 10K +

Vsync is off. Tried two different driver versions.

Should i be concerned or is 3Dmark2000 hit or miss and i shouldnt read too much into it?

3DMark2000 was made before everyone knew how to take advantage of T&L (which is why I never use it personally) so i'd prefer 2001 in this case. Also mind that it's an MX card - MX is a slower budget variant, and in the case of a Geforce4MX, doesn't have pixel shaders, making it more of a Geforce2 revision. Also you'll probably want to up the DirectX install as well since GF4 came out after 8.1 and holding DX back may cause disreprancy with driver behavior. Holding an installed DirectX back to the video card's 'class' is usually crap advice as it's not just about a 3d API.

FUCK "AI". It is a tool of fascism. We do not need it. We do not use it.

Thank you, but isnt the GF4MX a DX7 only video card anyway?

Also according to what ive seen online, the MX460 is faster than the Geforce 2 TI/Ultra and the GF3 TI 200 in these tests.

Also, i found this thread on various 3dMark2000 scores, and looks like my CPU score is very low and could be the culprit?

Im gettgin 415, but these guys are gettggin way higher on slower CPUs?

Ok, so i installed Everest software to try and get more info of my system.

Everything looked good, exxcept that it said AGP was disabled. Weird. I checked DXdiag and all was good there. Bios was also good.
I spent some time inbstalling and reinstalled GPU and VIA 4in1 drivers, no good.

After a few hours of digging online in old and new sites, i realized that im running a chipset on my motherboard (A8V deluxe) that apparently has some sort of AGP bug with new Bios versions.
My bios was version 1015, one of the newest.

I downloaded and flash the bios back to 1003.

Everest now showed AGP enabled.

3dmark200 score went from 7000 to 11500, cpu score from 415 to 820.
Quake3 time demo went from 98fps to 205 fps.

Problem solved! Hopefully this helps someone else in the future.

Oh yes, this seems to be the VIA win98 AGP bug.
It is great you can use BIOS old enough to fix this. For some later boards this is not possible.

I guess if that was the case only option would be winxp.
Its funny that if i hadnt ran 3dmark i probably would not have caught this, as games performance, although crippled, was still good enough.

Weird bug, i almost thought the MX460 was faulty or fake or something.
