Yes, it should be fine. Probably better, especially if you have AGP video.

...why the sound setup of a lot of games running in dos 6.0 if i set the SBlast settings (as you tell me) tells me that the sound card can't be find on the selected port??

Remember what I said about the DOS support for the 8738? It is terrible. If it works for anything, consider yourself lucky.

...how i can configure the network settings in my university labs to play duke with other 4 or 5 guys ??

Two problems here Andrea:

1) I wouldn't have the slightest idea. Even if I were well-versed with your university's network setup (and I'm not), there would be no guarantee that attempting to change the network settings wouldn't cause a disaster.

2) I'm betting that the university would frown on any such attempt to do this. If you still really want to set up networked games there, contact someone at the university who would have the authority and the knowledge of how to do it.

Hey, Schadenfreude here with a quick word!

I talk to Stiletto, Stiletto talks to friend Saka (guru of this - http://vsynchmame.mameworld.net/)

Saka have this to say:

I did not (could not) any tweaked driver for cmi8x38, I think cmi8x38 hardware is not good for puredos... Please say "you should […]

Did you make a tweaked driver for this one? I forget...

I did not (could not) any tweaked driver for cmi8x38, I think cmi8x38 hardware is not good for puredos...
Please say "you should give up using CMI8738 in puredos" to the person being troubled with it 😀

Note: Does SIS630/730 video chip support VESA okay, or does it need helper application?

SiS630/730 vesa support is okay, but it may hang or do restarting by uging VESA2 modes because SiS630/730's old video BIOS has bugs in the vesa bios. Anyway, using VESA1 modes instead works well, I think. of course, SiS630/730 with newer BIOS is ok.

Thanks, Stiletto! So Andrea, if you wish pure DOS, then get a new sound card, or disable sound in games you play!

I can't help with network question...

Then it sounds like what you want is the configuration settings within Duke3D. The answer is still "I don't know", because the ports out right now are still experimental.

I'm not even sure if playing over a network can be done yet...

I was kind of hinting that... that is why I repeatedly said support is terrible.

So would it be worth her while to try NOLFB? I wonder if anyone has successfully used NOLFB with a SiS card...

Andrea is a boy's name in other countries. IMHO, more likely.

As per your question, possible. Cross bridge when we happen upon it. Could also make sure to have latest firmware, by Saka's recommendation (Google can't find any for Sis630? Odd - this is integrated video then? How do you replace firmware?)

Or Rob's utility VESA12:

My question - has NOLFB been tested in DOS?

Additional:
See AdvanceVBE for VESA tweaking on 630.. It supports 630, that I know. But if PCI ID is even off by one, it won't work.

Hrmm...I thought that was "Andreas".

(Google can't find any for Sis630?

I found a little info...very little.

BIOS should have an option to shut it down, many will stop operating as soon as you plug something into the AGP slot.

Thought - perhaps the SIS630/730 video BIOS is distributed as part of the motherboard BIOS.

Then, in order to change the firmware, you must flash the motherboard BIOS. Otherwise, there seems to be no channel for distributing the video BIOS.

So, to summarize for Andrea:
Sound for Shadow Warrior -
Either:
1. Install Windows 98 and run Shadow Warrior in Windows 98.
2. Disable onboard CMI8738 and replace with other sound card - suggest to Andrea to read one of the threads on VOGONS about best sound card for older games. (Can't find any right now)
3. Disable sound in-game and forget about sound, CMIU\8738 is very bad.

Video for Shadow Warrior -
1. Start at low resolution to be sure that works (320x240 or whatever's less than 640X480)
2. Make sure you have latest version of motherboard BIOS, will cut down on video problems, we think.
3. Try high-res mode - If still have video problems, try NOLFB (http://www.advsys.net/ken/build.htm) OR VESA12 (http://home.student.utwente.nl/r.muller/unire … /videoproblems/)
- All that, or -
4. Disable onboard video and add a video card. IMHO, a 3dfx card would be best for Shadow Warrior because you could try to play the Shadow Warrior 3dfx patch OR the regular version.

Hm, that's a thought. Maybe Paul should try to get Shadow Warrior 3dfx working in GliDOS? Then, with sound card replace, VDMSound should work... and no worries about Video problems. Then again, still have CLI/POPF to worry about.

Network for Duke3D -
I can't help here.

Build 13 of duke_w32 has more networking fixes.

As for Shadow Warrior 3dfx.....it would probably be as useless as Blood 3Dfx...except of course for the higher resolutions.
