I think the default refresh rate of 60Hz is set, though I'm using PS/2 Rate, which is set to 100Hz. Not sure if that's overriding anything...?

I have a bit of trouble understanding this part of your post, PS/2 rate should adjust the mouse refresh rate and shouldn't adjust the refresh rate of the display system.

Yeah, ignore this. I wondered if it was affecting/changing the refresh rate, but it's not.

Bugger. I'm so absent minded. >_< Was busy testing these games and forgot about the Geforce 6600 I was going to try and win.

Not particularly in a good mood due to personal and work issues, so I think I'm going to do some 'comfort buying' to try and cheer myself up. :p So I've decided to order the Intel stock cooler with the copper bottom for the P4. I'll keep a close eye on the temperatures. If it does get a bit too hot then I'll look at upgrading to something better at a later date. I've also ordered the Seasonic SS-350SFE 350W SFX 80 Plus Power Supply, and two Kingston 256GB DDR400 modules of RAM.

I'll use my Geforce 4 Ti 4200 for the time being.

CPU cooler and PSU have arrived. Not particularly happy that the RAM hasn't even dispatched yet. Without that, I can't boot anything up to test. 🙁 Also, I'm not sure if I need to remove the stock bracket that's around the CPU. I'm guessing yes...? But can't seem to push the pegs through on the underside.

Okay, it's not to be removed. Just checked a video. It took a few minutes, but I figured out how to install it. 😀 Also, the old PSU did have an additional bracket screwed on at the front to make it a bit wider.

Aaaand I've gone and fucked up slightly. As usual. The one thing I didn't want to do and I've gone and done it. >_< Tried cutting away the cable ties around the cables of the PSU, to break and space things up, and I've inadvertently cut the blue wire to the motherboard ATX cable. D: Not in half thankfully, but somewhat exposed. I've wrapped some black electrical tape around it, but I'm not sure if I could still have potential issues down the line. Looks like I'll have to get some special cable tie cutters next...

Double fuck up. Thought the PSU was 20+4 pin - as in, a separate 4-pin cable, but it's actually a full 24 pin connector. And it's 20 I need. >_< 🙁

It doesn't seem like from the picture, but some PSUs has the 4 pin detachable from the 24, see if that is the case, sometimes it can only be seen closely.

Also there are adapters sold which converts a 24 to 20+4 pin.

EDIT: Also don't worry that much about the blue cable, if they use the standard ATX colours it is -12 volts, rarely used in P4 systems, just make sure that it doesn't get into contact to any other power rail, or components.

Ohhh, thank you! Yes, I can see a noticeable seam. I just can't seem to get it detached; it's proving very difficult. I was going to say, the listing for this PSU actually says it's 20-pin. Not 24.

Okay, got the additional 4-pins detatched. Had to use a tool to wedge it inbetween to separate them. I'm just still miffed about the blue wire and just hope it doesn't prove an issue.

If the blue wire just only got the insulation cut off and you properly insulated it with electrical tape, then it shouldn't be that much of an issue, the -12 rail is generally <0.8A, so less than 12 watts, and mostly the actual usage on the rail even if used is significantly lower than that. In the P4 era -12 volts was mostly used by certain sound cards and motherboard sound chips other HW will be most likely unaffected.

Just make it sure that the insulation is done properly, shorting -12 volts onto components expecting positive voltage or into the positive voltage rails is not fun and can cause magic smoke to happen.

This is the extent of the damage. I've removed the old tape and made it smaller and cleaner.

Thanks. I sure hope so. ^^; Otherwise I'll have to use one of my ATX PSUs and just have it out of the case for testing.
