I've been experimenting with the games included with Windows and found that many of them can actually run on much older OSes and lower-spec hardware than you'd think.
Here are some interesting results from my testing, along with online playable links:
- FreeCell: Windows 3.0 Real Mode
- Hearts: Windows 3.1 Standard Mode
- Spider Solitaire: Windows 95 with only 4MB RAM
- 3D Pinball: Windows 3.1 386 Enhanced Mode with 8MB RAM
- Fury3: Windows 3.1 enhanced mode with 16MB RAM (running via js-dos with the DOSBox-X engine)
(Note: I didn't include Reversi, Solitaire, or Minesweeper since they are already widely available in standard Windows 3.0/3.1 web emulators.)
Curious to hear if anyone else has managed to push these games onto even lower specs or weirder setups! Enjoy!
