I wanted to play Pirates! again, and had purchased it on GOG. Reading up on it, I wanted to play in Tandy mode for the much improved audio along with the EGA quality graphics. However, the DOSBox provided by GOG apparently has a bug with Tandy graphics that was fixed in later versions of DOSBox. The problem with just using a fixed DOSBox is that GOG has patched the MOUNT command to include the "-t overlay" option so that C: is first mounted as the game directory, and then the "cloud_saves" directory is mounted as C: with the "-t overlay" option, so that writes to C: go into the overlayed directory instead of the main directory.

So, I either lose Tandy audio or lose the ability to keep backup saves on the GOG cloud. Is there a version of DOSBox that includes the overlay option to the MOUNT command?

What version of DOXBox did you try using? The vanilla version is very limited. But any of the common forks DOSBox-X, DOSBox Staging, etc should do what you are asking.

I used the download version (0.74-?) from the main site, several months ago. I haven't tried any of the SVN versions. I tend "not" to use 3rd party versions. I do, however, have a self-compiled version which includes several patches I like.
