Not today, but this weekend - I bought a PNY blower GeForce RTX 2060 for $60. My buddy's gonna get it for his secondary rig with an i7-9700 and pay me back for it + send me some older PC parts in exchange (PC100/133, DDR1, DDR2, i7-6700). While I was testing it, I found out something pretty cool:

FswdHYv.jpeg

This RTX 2060 used recycled 2080 silicon (TU104) instead of TU106! That means nothing in gaming, but apparently TU104-based 2060's perform up to 41% better in workstation tasks and have faster video encoding. This isn't super duper rare or anything, as the EVGA KO model was the most well-known for recycling 2080 silicon, but it's always cool to know that some random blower card from PNY was also subject to it. This card was manufactured sometime in 2020, and the VBIOS is dated February 2020.

Oh, and here's the rest of the album. (outlink to Imgur)

Ah, I thought they gave up all that same SKU stuff when AMD did CrossfireX, and asymmetric stuff early 10s.

I mean that info is from the Internet so it could be wrong, might be worth testing to see if they did drop the restrictions in the end or not.

Ah... they don't do it like Ati/AMD, sum the cores and split the work, they do it by assigning master to lowest end card and still allocating half the work each either alternate line or alternate frame (Thought I read somewhere it was completely unlike 3DFX SLI, but first method sounds same) . Asymmetric named "mixed SLI" so basically it cripples the better card to be as slow as the slowest card. Buuut, might be workable with a headless near clone of your desktop display card. Or if you get one cheap enough with a few more cores, just deal with losing their advantage.

However, some display or workload methods with Vulcan support share it out. Otherwise the hybrid mode combined with passthrough might work to run on low end low watt desktop card on desktop and fire up the headless for passthrough when needing "real" GPU.

MGPU might also work assuming the software is MGPU aware and both GPUs are DX12 capable.

Craft Computing on youtube has done a lot of work in that direction, I would highly recommend viewing some of his videos on it all.

Quadro P6000 24Gb is an interesting buy these days...

Yes, jumped at it because of the price, they still sell for quite a bit, most I see here in Australia are 600-700 dollars.

I still consider Pascal to be the best series nVidia has ever made I figure its worth owning the top tier version of it as its still a very capable 1080p GPU.

I went the Titan Xp Pascal route myself but yeah I do like the the series.
XP gaming is modern for me.

When I mentioned Craft computing what I meant was but didnt actually say was that he has done a lot of work playing with cards like this to see jst how much can be rised out of these cards.
Quite a lot as it happens. But his videos are worth watching.

Ill check out the channel, the Quadro should by rights overclock the ram by quite a bit since its the same memory as the Titan XP and 1080Ti, pretty sure its just power limited since its a workstation card ...fully unlocked with a better cooler and itll be quite the GPU.

IIRC Pascal doesn't work under XP, Maxwell does however and its quite a monster for XP gaming. Picked up a 8Gb 750Ti a while back for my XP rig .. its one of them Chinese cards where they cram as much memory on it as the GPU can address ...its quite funny seeing a 750Ti with 8Gb and it does perform much better than the stock 2Gb model.

The extra memory does illuminate just how much nVidia was holding Kepler and Maxwell back by putting such pathetic amounts of VRAM on the cards.

Saturday morning at a flea market. Saw a SanDisk 2.5" SSD 1TB priced NT$1200 (US$37.69).

Me: "Is it good?"
Seller: "No idea. Untested."
Me: "NT$1200 isn't small money; what if it's bricked?"
Seller: "You can come back to me if it won't work."
Me: (Yeah right. Put the SSD back on the floor mat.)

(Me saw a flash drive with dual connectors next to it)

Me: "How about this flash drive?"
Seller: "You can have it for just NT$50 (US$1.57). Untested either; sold as is and no refund though."
(Me saw the carved description text and took a deep breath)
Me: "Well, with that price I can take a bet."

Holy cow! A buck-fifty for a 1TB flash drive is pretty good. Let us know if it works. Also... wipe it first using a bootable LiveCD with your other drives disconnected or something. Who knows what is on there...

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

Received an Unlocked Arcadyan AW1000 5g modem (works well popular around here)
Received generic Intel I226 V 2.5 Gigabit PCIe Ethernet card (because Realtek based versions suck like the TP-Link TX201)
Received expensive 3m UGREEN Cat8 Ethernet Cable
Received a TP-Link TX201 the Realtek chip has a built in hardware bug causing line drops and was subsequently returned for refund.
As you can see above I’ve upgraded my home internet connection.
My 4g Huawei modem no longer stores configuration memory thus needed to be replaced but kept as backup.
The new modem has a 2.5 Gigabit LAN port so I got the CAT8 LAN cable even though I could've gone with CAT6 because i wanted 8 x meow and who can beat UGREEN definitely not the cheap fake eBay offerings.
I have full top speed internet possible for my area so I'm happy with that and my modem has high speed WIFI as well as fast LAN.

Should also run a check to see if its really a 1tb drive too.

I always kept a "food tester" computer -- an MSI Wind U100 netbook with Atom N270, 2GB DDR2, 160GB HDD, WinXP SP3, recovery partition and CD -- for any foreign storage media I picked from flea markets, e-waste, or even from any friend with minial computing knowledge.

Yes, it works, with actual 1TB capacity. 😉 The drive contained the most confusing and perplexing content I had even seen in a "stray" storage device I picked up, though. 🙄 >95% of its 700+GB contents were p*rn, and not even good p*rn (I've seen some good ones in other "stray" HDDs), but the owner clearly used old video tapes of 1980s to practice video editing. Ewwww.

Even more confusing were three folders with GWBASIC.EXE and more than 900 small (a few dozen KB each) .BAS files. GWBASIC?! Haven't used it for more than 30 years. As GWBASIC saves .BAS files in tokenized binaries, I'll have to fire up my DOS machine to load it. Some .BAS files were dated back to 2002 while some others were as late as February 2026. 🙄

After backing up the .BAS and deleting all the p*rn I'm formatting the drive now as I type; for unknown reasons it was formatted in NTFS instead of default exFAT so I'm performing a slow, complete format instead of a quick one. It might take a few hours to complete.

UPDATE: Formatting completed.

Win10 is in traditional Chinese but understanding those messages shouldn't be a problem. 😉

Huh, GTX 750 Ti with 8 GB VRAM?? That's nuts! Where did you find it and how much did it cost?

I've been daily driving GTX 750 Ti since 2014, it was famous for its power efficiency.

I've been daily driving GTX 750 Ti since 2014, it was famous for its power efficiency.

These have popped up on Chinese markets in the past year I believe. They don't actually have the specs of a 750 Ti though, they are a GTX 750 (GM107, 512SMs, 32 TMUs, 16 ROPs) with the BIOS modified so that it reports as a 750 Ti.

This video talks about these cards but seems to make some odd claims about it being clocked higher to bring it up to actual 750 Ti specs, when it doesn't appear to be. They also leave out any gaming comparisons to a real 750 Ti, while saying that it performs about the same? The only comparison they show is it being about 15-20% slower than an Asus 750 Ti 2GB card in one synthetic test... which is about the difference between a 750 and a 750 Ti. So, it is a 750 (non-Ti) with 8GB of VRAM.

Basically, it's interesting for a situation where you need more than 2GB of VRAM but don't need anything faster than a GTX 750. But in that case, a Quadro K2200 may be a better choice since it has 4GB of VRAM and has the a full GM107 with 640SMs, 40 TMUs and 16 ROPs while only being clocked about 10% lower than a 750 Ti.

If you are playing Windows XP era (pre DirectX 10) games then a standard full-clocked 750 Ti will be faster across the board. Games from that era just can't really make use of more than 2GB of VRAM. If you figure that the 8800 GTX had only 768MB and was a top of the line $650USD DX10 card intended for Windows Vista, it makes sense.

Oh, I see, I found this shortly after posting: https://www.tweaktown.com/news/112769/chinese … -fps/index.html

So currently, there isn't a pure variant of GTX 750 Ti with that much VRAM, but plain GTX 750. So a bit slower under usual circumstances, except in cases of VRAM starvation.

Though there is also this odd-ball on Amazon, which appears different visually: https://www.amazon.com/Xynsviu-GeForce-GTX750 … r/dp/B0F9SRPXJS

The one I have is a dual fan jobby

Not really bought for just gaming but rather the facts its a SFF version with 4 HDMI ports. Yes it reports as a 750Ti but I think we all know its not one ..I haven't pulled it apart yet either to see what core its actually got, I should do that.

Being a Chinese card itll likely die from Vram failure sooner rather than later.

Picked up an RX460 4Gb GPU...
Might not be interesting but its a discrete GPU for an HP EliteDesk 800 Mini G4.
Will play WoT nicely I think. Just need some other bits n bobs to go with it now and Im all set.

Both GCN 4 cards and honestly not a lot between them performance wise, the 4GB on the RX560 does make it more useful.
