It’s mainly for running DOS and Win3x
Even though Win95 was designed to support the 486-33 CPU.
It can just barely run win95, it still can’t play MP3, Quake, or Videos.
Unless you put the pentium overdrive into it.

The best CPU’s for windows 95 is the pentium class.

I'm not expecting the world from it, I just want it to be the best it can be.

Before the release of the pentium CPU’s. The 486 pretty much did run the world with DOS and Win3x.
I found out that DOS and Win3x, and Win95. Perform better on a Pentium CPU.
So I built a computer with Pentium 233 mmx CPU an was surprised just
How well Win3x and Win95 performed as opposed to the 486.
This is how a computer is supposed to perform.

Somehow I don't think you people understand that I have many other computers besides this one: (I'm not trying to brag here, but I'm just stating a point!)

I get your point, however, getting a Porsche for the price of a Volkswagen was exactly what the Celeron 300A did back in the late nineties. There were no drawbacks, it ran 450 for years and years.

I owned one back in the day.
I changed its BIOS serial number to "POTATO" being frustrated I couldn't turn a Volkswagen into a Porsche.
Still had some fun with shareware of the day.
The in-laws felt sorry for me and gave me another PC when the PSU caps popped from the overclock stress.
I was given a gaming pentium system and I ran windows 98SE with dialup internet those were the days of the wild west that was surprisingly trusting.

Surely if the CPU isn't being overvolted and the thermals are kept within acceptable limits then it shouldn't be a problem? (Apparently not all of these "POD's"are able to be overclocked or overclock well, so I might not be able to overclock it)

Even running at 83 MHz, it's still the best allrounder for this machine.

My own PODP5V83 doesn't even complete booting into Windows at 100MHz. Gotta modify that on-board VRM at some point 😎

Excactly that mod, yes! My heatsink is still epoxy'ed on, so I'm afraid of popping that off ... 😉

I hope it all plays together nicely! (I should be fitting all of these components into the machine in the next few weeks.)

I’ve purchased a 6AMP diode in order to mod the Pentium Overdrive to do a stable 100MHz:

I’ve bent the leads on the 6 AMP diode to the necessary geometry allowing for the diode to fit into place neatly: (Some surgical soldering work will be required to do this without removing the heat sink.)

I'll first get the system up and running @ 83 MHz before I perform this mod.
