Hi, I need some help with an issue regarding the game Motorhead. I installed the game on my first PC (as mentioned in my signature), which meets all the game’s requirements. When I try to launch Motorhead, the monitor displays “mode not supported,” but I can hear the menu audio in the background, and the game starts on the track—yet I still see the “mode not supported” message on the monitor. I’ve tried lowering the audio acceleration to the minimum, reducing the monitor resolution, and even switching to 256 colors to see if that helps. The video signal isn’t reaching the monitor. However, I have a Diamond Monster 3D, and the game’s readme file confirms that the game supports Voodoo Graphics, specifically Voodoo 1. Could this be an issue with the LCD monitor? Thank you

Motorhead's menu is 640x400x8@70hz. i'd assume your monitor hates that. Also, the default res for the Glide driver when a Voodoo's detected is 512x384x16, so it'll be switching to that during demo mode while nothing is yet configured.

Well not that the LCD monitor is broken, but when you start exploring older PC software they can use video modes that are no longer supported on modern LCD monitors.

The strange thing is that, with the same monitor but on the second PC mentioned in my signature, Motorhead works fine. On the PC with the Pentium 200 MMX, the lowest resolution available in the Windows settings is 640x480. But, as I said, Motorhead works on another PC using the same monitor

The native 512x384 mode is not produced by the voodoo5, by the time it came out they made the more sensible choice of scan doubling that mode to 1024x768 like most graphics cards do. So it makes sense that it would only happen in a system with an original Voodoo Graphics card.

To be honest, I didn't quite understand—what does "original Voodoo card" mean? Is the Diamond Monster 3D less "original" than a Voodoo 5?

The first generation of Voodoo cards from 1996, aka "Voodoo Graphics"

Right, OK. So there’s absolutely no way to get Motorhead to work on the Voodoo 1? The only option is to try another monitor, isn’t it?

I'm not familiar with the game, but many games of the time stored the selected display resolution in a settings file in the game directory, maybe the game can be moved out of the incompatible display mode to 640x480 which should work with LCD monitors.

It does depend on the game, Gex: Enter The Gecko for example only runs at 512x384. But GLQuake can run at both resolutions.

So, if I connect my PC to a CRT monitor, it’s likely that Motorhead will work
