Bought a HD4850 PCIe and X1300 PCIe for science.

The part that stood out for me: I initially wanted to use a HD4770 for my testing, as it would be absolutely sufficient. However those go for around 25-35€ on ebay here in Germany, whereas the HD4850 can be had for 10€ . Well, not that I need that much horsepower, but hey, I'll take it.

The X1300 wasn't as easy as I though either. Ideally low profile + DVI + as cheap as possible. But many cards are dell OEM ones with DMS-59, making be shudder at the thought of having a dongle on it. So after some search I found one for around 5€.

The 4850 isn't much faster than the 4770 in real world use, it does run cooler and use less power though which may be of interest to you if you are looking for efficiency.

I basically needed "more than 4670" performance in the 4000 series.. and since I had a 5770 back in the day, I thought "Well, why not a 4770" 😁

My favourite is the HD4980 and the 4870X2 both are wonderful GPUs but the 4870X2 is a literal space heater and jet engine all in one.

The HD4890 comes in two flavours the 1Gb model and the 2Gb model ..the 2Gb model is pretty rare to find.

2√2/π

two root two over pi, which is a hair over 9/10, maybe I'm extra picky today 🤣

That does not explain physical non-perishable items going astray: they can't put them in the bin in a sorting office and they can't store them on a shelf in a sorting office, so.. they accidentally put them in a lunchbox through lack of training or experience?

All of the above I can cite examples, except for the lunchbox.

Assuming it made it to your local delivery office the most likely explanation, barring theft or dumping, is it got delivered to someone else in error. If the item was Tracked and you got notification that it was heading out on delivery (because it got scanned to core route) then the last person that handled it will be known and they can have their brains picked - the sooner the better before those memories are overwritten by another several hundred packets.

According to tracking, they vanish in transit either between the post office and the sorting office or in the distribution centre.

Sublime. Do you have a post on how these are made?

Thing about PCBs is the sharp corners can have them knife their way out of packaging, especially under the kind of mechanical agitation they get in sorting centers 🙁

Looks cool. Intending to sell these or just for hobby?

What metal is it made of? Has a kind of brushed aluminium look to it ... or is it steel?

Not really "retro retro" but I got this Asrock X79 Extreme 4 board, afaik its the only X79 board (other than Extreme 3 and Extreme 6, also from Asrock) that has multiple PCI slots. Have a 4820K CPU on the way which will allow it to run PCIe 3.0. Hoping it will make a good hybrid setup for multiple OSs.

I’ve been selling them for several years now.

Do you have brackets for Sound Blaster 1.0 / 1.5 and/or Snark Barker by any chance? Is it OK for me to contact you directly?

Buying a CNC machine would be extravagant for making just the occasional backplate.

One card in my collection that would definitely benefit from a new backplate and is an ELSA ERAZOR III with video I/O. Before seeing your post, what I was thinking about is finely snipped/drilled craft aluminium glued to a coarsely snipped/drilled donor backplate - my idea could never look original but it might be functional.

Do you have any thoughts or advice?
