the same window clicked twice 😉

I think your engineering skills will come in handy to us 😉

There we go.. for other things the xilence cooler + server fan is not enough.. I was too lazy for watercooling right now. Didn't even plan on going that far yet.

Very nice! How embarrassing for me, you’re getting close to my Barton score lmao.

I swapped out my NF7-S (recapped) with another one with factory capacitors and managed to go up to 240Mhz (it’s really just silicone luck with these motherboards) with some rubbish CL2.5 ram. So I know the board is capable of that FSB. My limiting factor now is memory that can run at that speed with 2-2-2. I’ve been binning BH-5 memory today.

Question for everyone. A chip on one of the memory sticks keeps failing at the same location. I’ve swapped the chip out 3 times now and it still failing according to Memtest. I’m still new to binning, so is this normal? Should I just keep swapping the chip until Memtest is happy? Or could there be something wrong with the sticks PCB?

Edit: For my sanity, I made up this little diagram. Am I swapping the right chip?

Biostar M7VIP Pro (KT333), Athlon XP-M @ 174*12, Quadro FX 1000@ FX-2000 speeds...
10904 in 3Dmark01. It's pretty meh. I noticed Car Chase and Lobby are CPU speed limited, whereas Dragothic and especially Nature had gains from video card OC.

right! You understand it right, counting in the screen from right to left. 00 40 00 00 --> where 40 is the error at chip #3
Looking at the adress, 0 and 8 in the end are the first four chips, 4 and c are the chips 5, 6, 7 and 8.

I wouldn't use test #5 in memtest. The reason is, test #5 could be wrong. I tend to use some Mhz higher clocks and use test #4 or #8 (i think) instead by selecting the test manually.
edit:
I also used test#5 at the beginning, and I also had the same failing chip at the same position. Changing the test solved it.

So I went down into the lab today, remembering that I still had a thermaltake Sonic Tower laying around somewhere. Before mounting the AIO or anything, I thought: Let's give this baby a go:

Now I have just to find a less clock-lazy barton in my collection..
Perhaps I'll give some CPUs a spin the next week, the mobile ones deserve a second chance..

This is with a 2600:

Not hitting my old score, but hey.. it's been a while 😁

That sonic tower will stay.. 35°C are hard to beat right now. And if it gets too warm, we're going to sit outside. That cooler makes me feel nostalgic, as I had it on my first new parts self-bought PC with a K7S8X and a poor Athlon XP2100.

Great. How did you put Sonic tower onto socket A?

The original Sonic Tower has mounting material for 462 out of the box. Nothing to do here for me. It uses the four mounting holes of the board.

That's why I loved this cooler back in the day, it was the biggest and baddest aircooler I could find for my athlon XP. Painted it black later and had it on a 939 platform as well.
