Reiterating because this is still happening.

IMO this will block interesting projects.
Not in favor of this.

The VAST majority of 'projects' posted here by people with less than twenty posts(and usually it's the first or second post they make) is non-disclosed AI slop that is abandoned shortly after it is made. These new users are not reading the rules and do not care to disclose their AI usage as required. Even if they do disclose that it is AI that doesn't mean they will continue to support that project. It is pure garbage being heaped onto this forum and we should be better than that.

You are assuming that moderators can't step in and approve link posting by editing the author's post and adding it themselves if it is truly exciting and worthwhile.

We're entering a new era of slop coding and we need to be ready. Right now it seems like we're not.

So called AI slop is a new thing, so no the majority is not AI stuff. Let’s give people the benefit of doubt and trust on our members to recognize and report unwanted projects before setting such hard measures.

Just ignore it? There is already numerous single poster posts through out the numerous years of vogons history.

I get that its a bit annoying, but its better than the gate-keepery/ leetist-vibe thats given off by having posts to be constanly approved. Besides, any min post count will just be circumvented with x-1 AI slop posts before the users grand reveal of AI slop project.

Not all projects get maintained and many times authors of projects have gone awol for periods of time anyway.

Even if a project doesnt get any support afer initial reveal, if there is an online repo, anyone can clone fork and start prompting themselves. Thats the benefit of the low-effort low-bar coding world we seem to be living in these days 😀... Silver lining

Is this agreed upon by the rest of the moderators and admins?

maybe instead of "like" the button should be "thanks" *if* this ever gets implemented

"Thanks" button, without any related rating-systems probably should be Ok. Also, no stupid "reaction" emojis involved. Just a list under the post with user nicknames, who are too lazy to write 😀

I've been asking for "Kudos" button for years. The earliest post that i could find in this thread is from 2022 and in that i already refer to earlier suggestions i've made.

GigAHerZ wrote on 2022-06-14, 17:20:

Back in days, i also suggested (iirc) to have some reaction-like thing. Maybe something simpler like "thank you" or "kudos" thing, through which you can express your gratitude towards that user and the info in the post.

But it's a nice-to-have and i don't cry over it. Just time to time yet again, i want to thank someone for their reply, yet i don't want to spam with a short post just saying "Thank you"...

i'd agree, i understand the desire to stop forum misuse but really if we watch the forum "speed", its hardly flooded with threads that disappear off the front page in no time, it's a little slower than it was, the regulars perhaps a little smaller in total numbers, if we get some "drive by" promotional posts now and then it can be borne for now

really, to be true, if efforts need to be made in forum, is first fix the problem is not working in a lot of browsers because user agent, and second, a vogons version for old browsers

I dont think nobody needs a THANK or point +1 option, we dont need in real life, less in virtual one. If someone share something is to bring to comunity not to gain points. But have the chance, being a retro forum, to use in a old browser is great, i want to access vogons in netscape in OS9 in my performa, or in IE5 in windows 3.1... etc this is something useful for a retro comunity

Restricting new users from posting links is a step *way* too far.

Maybe you don't understand the intent of the policy, nor what it prevents? You'd prefer to accept the bad with the good, but the decision was made contrary to that.

I need to remind you that I have never given you permission to talk in behalf of me. Stop it!
This is extremely inconsiderate and offensive behavior from you.

(And in this thread, you can see many others sharing my opinion on this feature - I'm not alone in this either.)

I strongly disagree. Post reactions are a quick way to thank someone for their contribution without cluttering up the forum if you don't have more to add. You don't "gain" points and they don't show up anywhere or have any value.

There's a reason why every modern forum has them.

- adding more restrictions on posting are well intended and make sense but it’s another step at micromanaging small infractions. The saying “the road to hell is paved with good intentions” applies to those.

- the user agent thing is an ongoing battle with people trying to cripple the site (see Snover’s reply in The forum is broken). And when you look at the name of the site and what the acronym stands for (very old games on new systems) it’s apparent the forum’s intention is not to run on old browsers. That it works (unless the user agent thing acts up) is great but not a must.

- as for other features, again the reminder that custom features are posing technical debts in the future as they are likely needing to be fixed when the forum is updated. Which makes them unlikely to be implemented.

Agree, but i think time change, and looking at forum content, maybe, now it should stand for: Very Old Gamers On Nostalgic Systems

Maybe you didn't understand my post. I'm perfectly fine with the decision that was made (i.e. the rules currently in place), and I was suggesting that the bad should be reported, not accepted.

I definitely couldn't follow your post as it was unclear. But I quoted you directly, and you weren't replying to anyone, so the context wasn't clear either. This discourse is largely irrelevant as the admins are going to do what they feel is best.

Horoscopes were designed to have no influence; "it will be a boy... or a girl," "you will finish your task during the day ... or at night," "your world will again change soon.." etc. 😉

Pretty much how the LLMs present you as the center of the universe. Giving you advice on anything that doesn't have a definite answer defined.

One of my favourite books is by Stephen Lehar, The World In Your Head. By definition, the universe as perceived by you exists only inside your own head.
