this is fullscreen, no life or amo bar, minus two bar, is running at i think, 320x152

320x152 is 320x200 is 76%, if you get 34fps at fullscreen you will get more or less 42-45fps at 320x152

The attachment fs.jpg is no longer available

Okay, I understand what you're referring to now. You're talking about removing the HUD via the screen size or viewsize setting.

You're right that in Phil's benchmark he has both HUD status bars displayed which is the viewsize = 100 setting. Setting viewsize = 120 removes both HUD elements.

I did that and re-ran the benchmarks:

demo1, no HUD, 320x200: 39.9 FPS
demo3, no HUD, 320x200: 37.2 FPS

That's 5 FPS slower than with the HUD enabled.

Upgrading hardware appart (motherboard M51, M63, M71, although is confusing to find one), i would begin for updating the bios... i have the bios image, the problem is how to flash it.

Is the bios stored in a removable EPROM chip?

If it is, one option would be getting a hardware chip programmer and using that.

Seems like a floppy disk is needed. The programmer is for bricked bios, in those cases. I will try to search that floppy image tomorrow.

About 4fps with need for speed iii, Do i remember wrong believing this game must perform something between 20 and 30fps?.

Toward the end of this thread there is some discussion of the game being very slow on a Pentium 233Mhz, and then suddenly not being quite so slow. It could be a bug of some kind. Either way, it doesn't seem like a Pentium 200 and a Voodoo 1 is the ideal setup for this game, with most recommendations being a Pentium III 500+ and a Voodoo2 12MB. If you turn the graphics settings down a lot does it run better?

Now for some blitting from the back buffer.

That's the thing, from 800x600 to... 512x384?, the difference is almost inappreciable, and i can't set the alpha setting (stands "shadowed").

I have installed the iceman drivers 3.01.00, and glide2x.dll is v2.48. I have one glide2x in c:/windows/system, and i copy&pasted near the NFIII.exe in the folder's game, but... nothing...

Clearly the voodoo is running cause there is no lack of perspective correction, and i remember playing this then with a pentium 133 + voodoo 1 smooth enough, but... 4fps with p200 + cache + voodoo 1, and then i see this:

Pentium 200 + voodoo 2:

Pentium 233 mmx + voodo 1 with 6MB of ram:

Pentium 120 + voodoo 1 (emulated):

I got a similar APTIVA 2134 -A1 and tried to max out the poor SIS chipset's performance. Still facing some annoying trouble. Here are the list shows what I have done till now :

1. CPU: Replace Pentium 133 with 233 MMX and new heatsink with a proper cpu fan. Even motherboard is single 3.3V design but actually it works perfectly. Set multiple jumper as 1.5x to get 3.5 x 66=233mhz. BIOS wont recognize correct cpu info since it suupport upto 200mhz only and it will get 127 error and show mmx cpu 0 mhz in bios info page. But cpu-z , hwinfo shows correct info.

2. RAM and Cache: Install 2 x 32mb EDO ram @ 60ns in BIOS. 512KB Cache. Oringinly it came with 64mb fastpage ram and get 111 mb/s in SpeedSys test and now 166 mb/s.

3. HD: Currently use a 8GB CF card adapter link to IDE port on motherboard. Still can't test sata raid adapter and IDE raid adapter because it will show 1805 adapter resource error when install video card @ top PCI slot. Maybe remove the ROM and let adapter work as a Ultra DMA 133 adapter will fix the issue?

4. Display card: Leadtek winfast S600 Virge/DX 4MB @ top PCI slot. System will crash if install video card on lower PCI slot when execute any DX game or test no matter it was 3D or 2D. I got one Matrox G450 Dualhead PCI first but it wont start POST if SIS6205 was disabled. and Every time I tried to install G450 driver system will hang up at last moment. SIS6205 shares memory bandwith therefore affect system performance negatively. When desktop set to more than 256 color, cpu-z benchmark will drop almost half.

5 OS: WINDOWS98 LITE from Oreg. DX8.1 installed.

I assume you are using Glide and not Direct3D to get 42FPS in Quake?

Your 3DMark2000 is testing DX7, but your ViRGE processor supports DX5 so the various DX6/DX7 calls from 3DMark2000 are being diverted from the ViRGE to the CPU for software rendering (what FPS did you get?). Personally, I'd drop DX8.1 to DX5.2 (shipped with Win98 original) to ensure I'm not hitting the CPU with redirected DX6+ software rendering. And, I'd benchmark using DX5-compliant Final Reality instead of 3DMark. Or, focus on the G450 to get DX6 support and run 3DMark99.

Desktop timeline [ MOS 7501 → 68030 → x86(P5/MMX) → x86(K6-2) → x86(K7*) → PPC(G3*) → x86-64(K8) → x86-64(Xeon) → x86-64(i7) ] * lost
