Hello adalbert,

Here is a new one to the list:
"...
I wanted to share a PC/XT motherboard I designed, based on the IBM 5160 and influenced by the many Taiwanese turbo clones of the era. I called it the DubaiXTClone.

The main differences from a standard XT design: 8MHz turbo with runtime speed switching, static RAM (no refresh), reduced IC count, 4-layer PCB, and real-time bus activity LEDs driven by otherwise unused gate outputs.

Fully open hardware under CERN-OHL-W v2 — schematics, PCB and PAL source code all included.

Tested with JUKO 2.31, Turbo BIOS 3.1 and others. SVGA Trident, 3COM, RTC, Floppy, and XTIDE all confirmed working in turbo mode.

As a side note, it also runs LMChat (https://github.com/spencer-uk/LMChat), a chat client that connects the board to a local LLM via LMStudio.ai application - ELKS and MS-DOS, both are supported.

GitHub: https://github.com/spencer-uk/DubaiXTClone/

(in the picture: top board DubaiXTClone, bottom IBM5160 - for comparison)

Happy to answer any questions.

~Spencer
..."

Thanks for the link @rasz_pl.

It has been brought up in other threads on Vogons, but suggesting this to be added here as well:

https://www.yyzkevin.com/picopcmcia/

I just ordered one of these, it looks awesome in terms of modernizing an older laptop. Especially the network bridge piece of it.

Cool, this seems to be "must build" for my HP 200LX. I tried 2 old PCMCIA eth. cards, even able to load drivers and exchange few packets all attempts with mTCP failed, maybe due too excessive current load. Even better this adapter can combine network and storage and others. As this palmtop has only one slot and very limited internal storage so it's crucial. Going to check for PCB data to put some order in JLC...

Has anyone downloaded the files that were here?

https://github.com/slobworks/sisyphus

it's gone now.

Here are the files I got from the repo back then (excluding the sisyphus-pci-backups folder as they are mostly unnecessary duplicates).

I did order a few PCBs and all necessary parts around early 2025, but I haven't really assembled a unit yet, as I'm still looking for a suitable 3D-printable bracket for this card's layout.

Without a good bracket I won't be able to actually put it into a case after assembly... even the brackets I could find online for the ES1868-ISA8 project did not fit that card and I had to manually drill more holes to adapt to its jack layout.

EDIT: There was a "low-cost" version of the card meant for half-height use cases. I'm only just made aware of this repo's disappearance.

EDIT 2: Turned out I did have the data about the "low-cost" version in my cloned local copy, the "LC" branch. Uploading it as well in case anyone's interested.

I looked closer but it seems not be opensource/openHW now:
$50 refundable deposit.
$160 expected final price.
Shipping in ~30-90 Days

You said its opensource, where are the files?
The repository will be made public prior to shipments. Many portions of the code are already publicly available via other products that there has been collaboration with.

Somehow this did not get in here yet, Asus MIR riser board reproduction, for USB, PS/2, IR from Asus header on socket 5, 7, 370, slot 1 boards in second half of 1990s.
Asus USB/MIR reverse engineering

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Cool project, the author also mentioned improved NUSB stack by SweetLow - where's more info about it? I use older CZ version of NUSB, I think 3.3...
My machine still has EHCI (only) but I have also installed PCIe x1 XHCI USB3 card so it could make this ports working too (even still in slower USB 2.0 mode)...

So the last critical missing is some (at least 2D) accelerated driver for newer VGA cards, maybe one day someone squeeze AI to port e.g. Nouveau from Linux to Win98 😜

Wake up honey, more AI slop supporting old hardware just dropped!
From Atakan Gesmeli, Research Assistant at Ege University (Turkey) Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering:

https://github.com/ages2001/WINUSB WINUSB — USB driver for DOS, Windows 1.0x/2.xx/3.xx and Windows 95/98/ME
This one might be VERO interesting considering https://www.yyzkevin.com/picopcmcia/ author just added OHCI host into the pico firmware = things plugged into picopcmcia will be transparently passed to emulated ISA USB OHCI host and work with native Windows drivers. "PicoPCMCIA USB w/ Windows95" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q2OqVry64w

https://github.com/ages2001/WINDISK WINDISK — IDE, AHCI, NVMe, CD/DVD, SD card and eMMC driver for DOS, Windows 1.0x/2.xx/3.xx and Windows 95/98/ME
"bus-master DMA and PIO, CHS, LBA28 and LBA48 addressing" this might be very interesting!

https://github.com/ages2001/WINAUDIO WINAUDIO — HD Audio / AC'97 / Intel audio DSP sound driver for DOS, Windows 3.x and Windows 95 / 98 / ME
Curious how Toaster handled interrupts and SB emulation.

On a merrier note some awesome human hardware projects:

Kuba Szczodrzyński "The smallest and cheapest ST-506/RLL/MFM hard drive emulator"
https://kuba.szczodrzynski.pl/posts/toshiba-t … l-hdd-emulator/ https://github.com/kuba2k2/pico506
Barebones version for some Victor/Toshiba laptops using JVC drives consists of $5 pico, two $0.2 open collector buffers like 74HCT05, SD card with optional socket, optional piezo buzzer. <$10 for a modern replacement of MFM/RLL hard drive.

jasperhax0r fork of above with nice universal PCB and differential buffers making it work in desktops https://github.com/jasperhax0r/pico506

Learned about those two today from Adrian's Digital Basement ][ Mail Call https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpClmSsoqO8 video.
