If I want to buy a RagePro (Turbo) AGP card for my Celeron 333 which one should I go for? Are there bigger differences? https://www.pc-schnulli.de/hardw/gkagp/gkagp_ati.html There are 8Mb SDRAM and SGRAM Versions. Don't know if chip/ram are always 75Mhz. If it's not 100% possible to tell which card to go for, perhaps it's easier the other way around which card to avoid?

thx!

EDIT: Just found this. https://www.vgamuseum.info/index.php/cards/it … rage-pro-agp-2x

SGRAM simulates dual ported behavior and is faster than DRAM for video cards

Turbo or no Turbo, i would avoid Rage Pro with edo, like 109-46200-00 and its also 4mb, not 8mb. Sdram vs sgram shoud be similar speed if clocks are same. SDRAM is cheaper to buy with 8MB , 4+4 SGRAM may look cooler and there is one option in the Rage Pro Tweaker for it. About Rage Pro Tweaker, someone knows what ati driver version works with mip mapping disable option, so far if i use this option, its not activating at its Direct3D setting and Vsync option is working with DX5 drivers (not newer).

Yes, at least one. But I do not believe it can take any multi port/page advantage over DRAM.

Unless you're looking for the Rage Pro specifically, the Rage XL is very inexpensive and overall a much better card.

Sky only has line and this is 1998 PreBeta build of NFS3 and screenshots are 100% Ragea.dll@3DCIF!

Ragea.dll (CIF) version of the game and the line issue was/is with 565 mode only in beta or final NFS3 game. Now using it again with 555 vs 565, only 565 has it. Direct3D shows both colors : 640x480x15 with 555 and 640x480x16 with 565, CIF mode its always showing 640x480x16 and 555 works better on CIF sky, no more line in the sky with CIF mode.

Easly visible difference with ragea.dll file versions in this game for me is how bright are the lights on back of the car and car brake lights.

Thx, I ordered sever different RagePro cards. I am not sure if the RageXL is still compatible in Amithlon, Win3x, OS/2 Warp, Rhapsody... to me the performance is not the main focus. My main focus is great compatibility , wide driver support, great feature set (CIF working in XL Series? and great image quality. The machine this card is used for will of course be multi boot quadboot+ setup and the Rage 8MB card will become a PCX1 4MB and a Voodoo1 by side so the 3d control center tool (3dcc 1.2) will have to manage all the options 😉

Retro-Gamer 😀 ...on different machines

According to the Vintage 3D site, Rage Pro can use EDO, SDRAM, SGRAM, and even WRAM. And shows expected performance gains.

Sometimes you have to disable one card by device manager with 3xvga or by tool, even 3dmark99 cant detect over 2xvga once. CIF working well with Rage XL / XC AGP, but sometimes some game detects Rage Pro better. One example is Ultimate Race Pro and for some CIF game if its not starting directly with Rage XL/XC AGP, change resolution or color depth + apply and then its starts, dont ask me why. Other than that, its good and its faster and it has more potential to have table fog support. NFS examples with dgvoodoo 1.31 are made with Rage XL AGP and there fog does not work with Rage Pro + tiny OpenGL differences also. Keep Rage Pro 8MB if your main goal is compability.

WRAM is only for MAC, no one made WRAM cards for PC sadly and that WRAM version supports Full HD as well and up to 16MB.
AMD still holds this ATi card manual on their site, card is from September 1997 https://drivers.amd.com/manuals/nexusga.pdf

The discussion was about its ram capabilities, not who made what card and for which platform. Nice try moving goalposts I guess.

EDO cards I have are clocked lower, preventing direct comparisons. Back then, I did not consider advanced operations like multi-page modes, so the comment on performance hints at a tiny uplift over SDRAM. But if Rage Pros always come with at least two SGRAM or four (S)DRAM chips, we might have an answer.
