I loaded up Terminator: Rampage. BTW, it plays smooth in 0.65 but becomes sluggish in anything more recent.

The control options are rather limited. Either keyboard, joystick, or mouse. No combination of these. The problem with keyboard is that turning left or right isn't very responsive. It's like a 20 seconds to rotating 3 degrees. It's much quicker when using mouse.

The problem with using mouse is controlling forward and backward movement. Right click will propel me forward. It's a little quick but the real issue is moving back. The only method I found to back away from advancing opponents is to drag the mouse toward from me, pick it up, and repeat.

It doesn't look like there's any way to map mouse movement so that I could make it look like I'm dragging my mouse with an arrow button. I don't have a joystick but is there a way I could input one of those actions onto a key?

There's no remapping of the mouse.

You can try to force-enable the joystick (joysticktype=2axis for example)
and remap the joystick axes (axes cross in the mapper) to keyboard keys.
Readme should have some example.

Readme should have some example.

Examples with joystick:

You have a joystick attached, it is working fine under DOSBox and you want to play some keyboard-only game with the joystick.

You want to swap the y-axis of the joystick because some flightsim uses the up/down joystick movement in a way you don't like, and it is not configurable in the game itself.

It seems the only way to emulate a joystick is to have a joystick to show it what to emulate. In which case I could see how well that works in the game on it's own and wouldn't need to emulate it.

Read what i wrote to force-enable joysticks.

I did but I don't get how to tell the mapper that I want those actions assigned to the keyboard.

You can try to force-enable the joystick (joysticktype=2axis for example)

The mapper now shows that the block of 6 at the top right have binding to a [missing joystick]

and remap the joystick axes (axes cross in the mapper) to keyboard keys.

Um... ok. I think I had it backward before. I thought doing this would assign arrow commands to joystick movement. So doing this will actually assign joystick movement to my arrow keys.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately, now I can't move in the game at all. I don't think 0.65 is accepting the forced joystick. I tried it in a newer version but it runs poorly in it anyway. So I can't tell if slow movement is because my idea to emulate the joystick was bad or if that's just because it runs poorly in this version.

0.65 doesn't support remapping the joystick
