HI! I happen to have a sound problem with System ShocK.
My Mother-In-Law had this very old laptop and after much "being nice" she finally agreed on givin'it frakkin'up. 😄 (Love you Sylvia!THANKS!)
It's a OLD 600Mhz Acer with some 128 MB of RAM and some "awgod" graphic board.
It barely manage 800x600. But I love it! I'm taking good care of it and all this all VERY old Dos gamez I had bought when I was less than teenager runs great!
... Long story short.
I installed my old (and Legit ) copy of Win98 SE.
And since of course my old floppy disk version of System Shock was wasted by years of waiting I had to fall back on SYSTEM SHOCK PORTABLE.
The bad thing is that even if it runs great on the Laptop there are NO sound whatsoever, while on m yBIG desktop it's all ok!
Pressing esc and checking show me that the Sound board is not initialized or anything.
I now it works 'cause I have all the sounds I could desire with C&C, Fallout 1 & 2, Steel Panthers 2 and many other games.
So Now I'm trying to download VDM Sound and see what good it does.
This post is actually a Prevention one. This evening I'll install VDMSound on the laptop so tomorrow I hope to be able to tell everyone interested how it went.
Anyone had any problem with that?Feel free to write to give me any help.
To tomorrow.
I SAID "NOOO"!
