I totally get that you like to build "time correct" machines. But I struggle a little bit with the need to overclock....

Well, I guess I have this also, 🤣!
Trying to build an untimate socket 7 even though I know slot 1 is easier, more reliable and maybe even a bit cheaper!
I just think a socket 7 (a.k.a. -the- socket for the Pentium ONE) at 600Mhz has a nice ring to it.
Same thing with the high end 486's. When I mention the 486 nowdays most people don't even know what a 486 is!!! Really, stunning how quickly the 486 has faded from memory in society!
Most people only remember the P4 and somehow also the P3 but P2? That just has to be old! P1? Oh, you must mean a P4, right?
Also Athlon XP is still in memory of the general public. Same with the Duron, kinda. But mention a K6? A Winchip? Cyrix M2? Rise??

Retro computing is history in the making!!!

With retro hardware it's not just about which is easier, faster or more reliable ...it's just how much fun you have that counts. Anyone can build a modern, super fast rig, you just get to the store and swipe your card, but building an old rig, is all about planning, dreaming, searching, a bit a luck, some skill, etc...everything that makes this hobby so great.

Exactly!!

At first my near ones were basically telling me in a very indirect way that I should dispose of all that hardware (junk they called it, ahem!) I had collected.
But now that I've got a new place with plenty of room and a separate area (my attic) to store all my treasures in, I hear nobody complaining anymore. A few even liked the way I manage my hardware these days!
I no longer have all my hardware spread out across every single room anymore (honestly, I try!!!11 😜)

I say send your "near ones" away if they can't appreciate glorious old hardware junk piles. 😁

@sgt76, you need to plug in a [relatively] stupid fast video card and see what happens when Prescott is clearly the bottleneck. Need a PCIe mobo probably for that though.

@swaaye: What would constitute stupid fast for this? They still sell Biostar PCI-e socket 478 mobos here, maybe pair this with a GTX480? 🤣

@Tetrium: Your "junk" pile is like, epic dude- you could send it to me anytime you feel you like it - though shipping to Temeria may be a problem.... 🤣

Pfew...let me think here, there might be a way.
I think that if I sell all the useless boards, I think I can manage to pay shipping to you for my epicly huge pile of packaging material!!!11 yay I'm so smart hehe!!1

Oh and cheers 😉
I've heard (much) worse comments about my pile of junk...but that *ahem* pile of junk is my private little empire! 😁
