I'm about to test a Geforce 3 Ti 200 video card, on a ~1.6 GHz athlon system. I am going to use the game "Serious Sam" to do the benchmark. What is the best resolution and colour depth setting to use? Egs: 640x480x16, or 1280x1024x32. Etc.

I have drawn up a table of tests to do. They include using various different versions of VIA's 4-in-1 service pack (including not one), and also the unofficial Windows 98 SE service pack. For each of these tests, I am going to install a couple of different versions of the nVidia video driver. The total number of tests to run for Serious Sam will be 23. So, I'd like to pick the best resolution and colour depth setting before I start! 😀 Thanks a lot.

i would recommend 1024*768*32
for any nv cards newer than gf256, one need to use nt-kernel based windows to make the full power out of it.

3D Mark 2001's a keeper.

Serious Sam thrives on hardware T&L.

I'm worried about using 3D Mark. I did some tests using a TNT2 and 3D Mark 99 Max, and it seemed that the nVidia drivers had been optimised for it, producing results that seemed "artificial". I was going to use the game called "Gun Metal", but it needs DX9, and I was going to leave my Win98SE tests to no more than DX8.1. However, I might do some Windows ME + DX9 + Gun Metal tests...

i have also tested many cards(all older than gf256/radeon) in 3dmark99max, but my conclusion is that nv cards have never been good at this, compared to other cards.
nv's performance in 3dmark2000/01, on the other hand, is better.
anyway, for a ti200 released in 2001, you need some games/tests at least released in 2002 or newer to push it to its limit...
