Hi,
For a long time the code for management of the parallel port is available. I refer to the work done by hal9000.
But why these improvements aren't included in the official code?
I really do not understand 🙁

Now I want to take the old hal9000 code (old of 2010) and put it in the last subversion. I think it's a pretty simple job (IMHO), but why it has not already done by hal9000? He is a dosbox developer or not?

Thanks, Nicola.
(sorry for my english)

That response repeatedly coming ups, but I believe a number of games that make use of the printer have been listed by folks previously. I understand why it wasn't high-priority, but it would seem most high-priority updates have been addressed at this juncture (forgive me for less than specific knowledge of the current DOSBox road map).

DOS Games with Printer Support/Actions:
Per Re: DosBox Printing...
Sherlock Holmes Adventure from Electronic Arts (unclear which, or both)
The Fool's Errand

Per Re: The map requires a printer! Is your printer ready?...
Last Half of Darkness 2
Shadows Over Riva

Per Re: Parallel Port Support...
Sim City 1

Per here...
Journey (Infocom) and other Infocom games
Star Fleet Warlord-Warlord's Aide http://www.agentsofgaming.com/sfw.htm
(likely other play by mail games from the late 80's)

So given that the work has already been done in the related patch, I'm also unclear why this hasn't become part of the default DOSBox code.

while support for printer may be coming somewhere in the future (no ETA),
support for other usages of paralel port very likely are not.

just because some version of dosbox could print,
it doesn't mean any other dongles/devices put into LPT port would magicaly works.

No, but I don't believe such is needed for support of games. Sure there is lots of DOS era software dependent on parallel port dongles and other odd bits of hardware, but as far as I know such is outside DOSBox's goals of supporting DOS era games.

Dosbox is made for games. Ok and then?
What's the problem to make it compatible with other programs if all the work has already been done?
I do not know any emulator better than DOSBOX that runs under linux.
I think it's a strange form of ideology: "dosbox live only for games!".
