Well, I honestly don't know if this is the cause of the failure, but I also tought about it and It seems to be a reasonable cause of the problem. Since 386 and 486 are compatible, I think that it should work (slower but at least work). One of the devs could explain this better.

Anyway, I'll keep trying. Now I'll test it with SDD 0.53, that was mentioned above to be more stable with dosbox.

Here's my final results using SDD 0.53 and with Dos32a instead of DOS4GW:

- Nothing has changed using SDD 0.53. This one has the same effect of the latest version I've used before.

- With the DOS4GW replacement and using the newest DOS32a, I got some "RET: Illegal call 7" errors and in some cases, it shows me a different error message that supposedly means that I'll REALLY need a 486 to run this game (see attached image error below):

"Exit to error: CPU_SetSegGeneral: Stack segment beyond limits"

With all these results, I want to ask Dosbox team the question: Will I really need a 483@33mhz to run this game?

Thanks A LOT for the help!
Regards,
RC.

GOT IT! With version 0.72 it works, but with another UNIVBE version that I've taken from The Need For Speed (version 5.0 Lite). With this one, the game works fine without the need of using that "vgaonly" video mode from the CVS build, except for the fact that the game cannot show all its colors at the same time on screen.

I think that this could be some sort of a bug within the UNIVBE 5.0 itself, not Dosbox. I tried latest UNIVBE versions, like the 6.7 but this version refuses to detect a superVGA chip with my machine, so, it's useless.

One weird thing about Supreme Warrior is that it has a commandline option (" f ") that eliminates flickering. If I enable that option, the game shows a message at the prompt before entering the game, saying: "Multicolor not used". After that, the game starts and the video quality increases A LOT, but strangely, the control panels and background screens around the video becomes very poor colored (looks like EGA or something). And If I enter the game without the " f " commandline option, the video quality is decreased (looks like palletized video) and the control panel/background screens around the video screen are nicely displayed.

Is there any way to make those latest UNIVBE drivers working with Dosbox and modern videocards?

Regards,
RC.

It's not a problem with univbe or dosbox, but the game. As soon as they
find a 320x240 mode they use their "universal something" driver which
is either bad or does bad assumptions.

this is quite an old thread. In the event anyone else comes looking for a solution however, in 0.74 at least, the key is to change the machine type to svga_et4000. The default svga_s3 causes the same issues as this poster had several years ago.
