I have downloaded Daggerfall from abandonia.com and it runs perfectly by dragging a "Dagger.bat" file in to the dosbox icon.

However, I've reached a game-breaking bug which I think can be resolved by running a patch called "fixsa175.exe".

When I mount and then run the patch file in dosbox, I get a message stating that I need put the daggerfall cd in the disk-drive and try again.

Mounting the correct drive is about my limit in terms of dosbox knowledge so if possible, simple, step-by-step instructions would be appreciated.

Thanks - any help would be gratefully appreciated

Download the official freeware version from http://www.elderscrolls.com/daggerfall and try if it works better. Abandonware games are not legal in most cases, and might work badly if at all.

Thanks - I wasn't aware that the site wasn't legal... Will I lose my saved games?

You can back up your save files, they should be on your daggerfall directory and named Save0, Save1 and so on I think. Then just copy those folders to your new installation.

EDIT: Just to clarify, the saves should be on folders, copy those folders to your new installation. If there are no such folders, then wait for someone else to come along and help, since I have not played daggerfall myself and just found this on google.

Right - I've downloaded and installed from Bethesda and managed to get Daggerfall to run in Dosbox.

- I then copied all the files from my existing save game to the Dagger directory.

- Tried loading the game from the old save file and the game exits and provides a message stating "Invalid save game format"

- Therefore, I downloaded patch fixsa175 again from here http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Daggerfall:Files which apparently resolves the save game problem I'm having.

- I've opened dosbox and mounted the c:games etc.. folder

- HOWEVER: When selecting the exe file for the update I'm asked to insert the original Daggerfall cd to continue => which I obviously don't have.

Any ideas on how I can run this update through Dosbox without having to start my game from scratch?

Thanks,

Rob

I would forget about those savegames and start anew.

Hmm, how about this version http://theelderscrolls.wiwiland.net/?title=Da … gerfallSetup_EN. It seems to be made from the official freeware version, but with added patches and the fixsave utility. In my opinion this version might be the easiest to setup and play, and might work best with old saves.

Aideka, you are a genius! It worked with my old save game and the patch resolved the quest bug. Thanks.
